Philman Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Here's the latest news about the change in speed limits. Interesting for any of us planning to visit Spain. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/afp/20080729/tpl-spain-energy-oil-inflation-politics-9eb7866.html Phil.
BGD Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Early days yet though. According to Spanish national news this evening the list of proposals is eactly that, just a list of proposals at this stage. They were suggesting it would be many months, if not years, before anything on speed-limit reductions actually got passed into law and then got enforced. So far as I can tell from all of our travels around Spain, the 120kph motorway speed limit is NEVER enforced; and other than slow chuggers and lorries, everyone else blats along at MUCH higher than that speed with total abandon, without seatbelts, mobile phone glued to ear, cigarette in hand, etc etc. This is either a victory for the rights of the individual over attempts to impose an authoritarian nanny-state regime, or complete bloody lunacy, depending on your viewpoint. To the Brits it's luncay. To the Spanish its just normal.
