mirage Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 I have owned a 2003 2.8JTD "A" Class from new and have always suffered an annoying noise which can be best described as "gurgling" when the engine / turbo are pulling uphill. It starts around 55mph in 5th and corresponding revs in 4th. Does anyone recognise the symptom and found a way of preventing it, noise kit already fitted!!!!
Guest peter Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 Turbo's make a whining noise. I suspect the gurgling you can hear is a coolant problem. Probably an air lock, worth checking and bleeding the system. As the Turbo is water cooled, it could be boiling the water around it as it works hard. Check the cooling sytem for air.
davenewellhome Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I've never seen a water cooled turbo. There is an oil supply to the shaft bearings and a return pipe for the oil to the sump but no water supply. D.
onecal Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Hi, Check your intercooler for damage and also that all pipework are well connnected. You could also get your exhaust tested for back pressure. Sorry without testing its hard to pin point, but I have come across the above on your model. Regards, Brendan.
hymer634 Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 I've also had a similar noise from new (2003 2.8 jTd Hymer A class). It's not too annoying and I came to the conclusion that it was coming from the air filter - lots of air being sucked in when under load. Alan
