Geof Angi Posted August 4, 2008 Posted August 4, 2008 We have an 06 reg 2.2 HDI Peugeot Boxer based Elldis One week before we went on our holiday at the end of June the bolt holding the heat deflecter over the alternater snapped ant the deflector slid down and went through the rad and inter cooler with the result that we had to replace both. Time was short and there was not a local dealer that could fit the motor home in there workshop, I was away on business in Scotland for the week and every thing had to be done over the phone. Hilton (Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire) the dealer who supplied the vehicle tried through contacts to get in into the local dealer, but to no avail. As the van was only just two years old with 13k on the clock, I thought that it might be a warrenty issue, but despite several costly mobile phone calls to Peugeot customer care the only answer was that unless I took it to a dealer they would not consider it. As above no local dealers could take it. They would not send any one out to inspect the damage despite the fact that the local dealer was no more than 5 miles max away, the vehicle had to go to them. Hilton agreed to repair the vehicle right from the start so I gave them permission to do so on the Saturday, one week later, and low and behold in was ready for Monday. I had to pay Hilton but considered the price to be more than fair and there service second to none. A quick e mail was sent to Peugeot advising that I would take up our discussions went I arrived back from holiday and away we went. They are still refusing to discuss compensation. Has anyone had this sort treatment from them or in fact ant fault with the heat deflector on there van Look forward to some replies Geof
Basil Posted August 5, 2008 Posted August 5, 2008 Hello Geof Whilst I can understand your frustration you probably won't want to hear my take on this but unfortunately in the circumstances you have described i.e. you did not make the vehicle available to Peugeot for inspection at their premises (whatever the reason), I believe you have acted outside the terms of any warranty and so I can understand Peugeot not accepting any liability and agree with them. I am not suggesting that any of the following happened, but looking from Peugeots point of view, things go wrong with vehicles, how does Peugeot know what caused the bolt failure was it something done by you? How do they know whether it was this that caused your secondary damage and it was not from some other cause that you are blaming on this failure? In your circumstances I would have to just put it down to experience. In the same circumstances I would have acted differently and would have had my recovery service take the vehicle to the nearest Peugeot dealer that could deal with it and at least have it inspected by them, hopefully repaired. However if they were unable to and I had had to cancel my holiday I would have done and claimed any financial losses caused by that from my holiday insurance cover. I am sorry if you did not want to hear that view point but that is my honest opinion. As an aside would it be possible to investigate a claim against your vehicle insurance for accident damage to the rad and intercooler? Bas
