colin weston Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 After a year's use my grey water drain tap has become progressively more difficult to open and close. It is a black moulded type made in Australia by Wingfield. Has anyone found a satisfactory way to 'service' this type of tap. To open or close one turns the handle through 90 degrees. It has what appears to be a green coloured plastic clip holding the assembly together but I don't want to break something if there is an easy solution.
hallii Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Get some silicon lubricant spray and give it a good dose, should free it up. Also useful on toilet flaps, curtain runners, bike chains, door locks, cupboard latches in fact anuthing that needs to move. Magic stuff. Geoff
bob b Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 IF you do break it Colin, I replaced mine with a stainless steel item from the local plumbers merchants for a tenner. If I remember correctly, Rapido wanted something like £40 for the original plastic item.
George Collings Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Hello Colin A large aerosol at a plumbers merchants (used for sliding pipes past seals ) was about £3 a couple of years ago.
colin weston Posted August 9, 2008 Author Posted August 9, 2008 Thanks all for your suggestions. I'll try a spray first.

I have managed to get the same taps as you have to work by squirting silicon oil and then inserting Vasoline into the tap itself and working the tap on and off until freed. My dealer states that they would do the same. Even if the taps are changed apparently they all become stiff in turning after a time.
PJay Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Hi Rees Don't think you'll get an answer, as the post is 5 years old !! You may get others reply though. PJay
