Going to France?

Hi,

So glad thread is back on track and highlighting what a great destination France is for us motorvanners. Regarding site fees then remember that using the aires and/or France Passion cuts these costs to almost nothing and gives a real informal feel to your trip. (Yes I no the aires can be very busy this time of year, but go inland away from the hot spots and you can still find aires with just one or two vans on. For example we have stayed on the aire at St Fromond, dept 50, N49 13.321 W001 05.377, in July and August and have had the riverside setting to ourselves).

Regarding the other stuff then can I suggest this would be more suited to a general chit chat web site.

All the best

Jean and Robert

. . . . . . some of the sites can be pricey 2 that were quoted in the books as 14Euros a night were in fact 30Euros and 37Euros neither of which we stayed at we soon departed when quoted that!

. . . .

.

was that due to the seasonal difference

ie 14 euros off peak - like with ACSI -

if not which books were you using??

B-)

We're going to go and see Carol and Charles at the Le Castels campsite in Brittany where they are working. The costs there are very high - about 40 euros a night for us and the dogs (dogs alone are near 5 euros a night!). However, as we plan to go out of season (ie after 25 August in this site's case) we've checked the ACSI book and they are in there ... at 14 euros a night including at least one of the dogs. If you haven't got an ACSI book/card, then get one, they really do save an awful lot of money out of season.

We were charged 15Euros for or little mite at a site in Holland !! its ridiculous isnt it :-S I mean are they dog showers? what do they use ? mind they had poop bins with bags on so I saved my nappy bags and used theirs! Im from Yorkshire I am. :-D

We fancy Brittany for next year ACSI !! that is a new one Ill have to have a look we left a couple at home this year J said we had too many what with Aires, Stalplatz, C.C. C.C.C. I think we will be going a month earlier next year we coincided with French holls this year it was busier than we had expected.

can really recommend the ACSI card - you buy it - together with a little book that lists all the sites that are in their discount scheme.

they are a firm from the Netherlands and undertake regular inspections of sites and also publish a bigger book - be careful you pick the discount sites

Discount operates out of peak season:

http://www.campingcard.co.uk/gb/en/home/uc33-l2-n253/

can get book from here:

http://www.vicariousbooks.co.uk/acsi.htm

the card runs for a calendar year

could also look at Camping Cheques, these you have to buy up front but I think they last for a couple of years -

http://www.campingcheque.co.uk/en/

we tend to use ACSI supplemented by Municipals and the occasional aire.

you could also check out France Passion

http://www.france-passion.co.uk/?gclid=CMuhhZiriZUCFQ2qQwodKhqQrQ

never tried it but it gets good reports

The only other guide we regularly use is:

Le Guide Officiel Camping Caravaning

can get it here

http://www.vicarious-shop.co.uk/view_product.php?c_id=2&sc_id=&p_id=36

and update our Aires book

and the web and tourist info sites

B-)

PS love Brittany - keep going back for my regular fix of crepes, found loads of good sites over the years

Just had a look at the book we have I was refering to it as C.C.C. but it is in fact C.C. A.C.S..I. so we do have it and the card I sent away for from the Caravan Club that you hand over instead of your Passport! which is very handy as it goes in your wallet along with credit cards and the book comes with a card that you just detatch!! talk about confused 8-)

P.S. Love crepes so thats a must then! I searched allover Frieberg for Blackforest Gateux mind it was worth it when we found it yummy. :-D
