Paul autotrail
Hello all, I am posting this question in hope that you could tell me if you know of a suitable van with the following details: 6 berth min incorporating overcab bed, rear fixed sideways bed, single side lounger and double dinette. Double garage, full size cooker (4 hobs, oven & grill), gas and elec water heater and blown heating, outside gas bbq point, at least 2 rear facing belted seats and obviously a 3 way fridge. I appreciate its alot to ask from 1 van but hopefully you can help????? Many thanks in advance. Paul.

Guest peter
I hear Autotrail are not bad. If you don't mind driving something the size of a small house.

Derek Uzzell
This type of enquiry is not uncommon, but budget is rarely mentioned. Significant criteria like new or second-hand, LHD or RHD, maximum vehicle dimensions and/or weight are often overlooked too. There's little point in suggesting a 9-metre long motorhome, with a 10-tonne maximum weight, that was only available in 2005 in LHD format and would still cost £70+k nowadays, if the enquirer has in mind a brand new, sub-7.5tonne, 7-metre, RHD vehicle at below £50k. In this instance (assuming RHD and new or reasonably recent) I'd tend to look at large German-built overcab designs from Burstner, Dethleffs, Eura-Mobil, etc. aimed at the UK marketplace. Even then, although one might manage to pin down a model with the required seating/sleeping/storage arrangements, I doubt one would find one with a full size cooker with 4-burner hob. If a buyer knows exactly what he/she wants in a motorhome and the desired specification is unusual or extensive, then hoping to identify an off-the-peg vehicle to match that spec is rather like hoping to find trousers for a 3-legged man in M&S. Perhaps the best way forwards would be to contact one of the bespoke motorhome specialists (eg. RS Motorhomes or SC Sporthomes) and get them to build exactly what's required. Not a cheap option though...
Rayjsj
Bearing in mind what Colinfrier had to say about NOT buying an X/250 based M/H (because of the Horrendous reversing problems) it has been suggested that the 3 litre semi-Automatic versions don't suffer from the problem??? Remember it's a road vehicle 1st, layout desirability comes next. Always look at what it's mounted on BEFORE you fall in love with the interior. :D :D
Paul autotrail
Thank you all for your kind reply's. At the moment we have an autotrail apache 600se on a Fiat. I do infact like the base vehicle and I especially like the new facelift model. LHD/RHD doesnt really matter but would obviously prefer RHD is available. Cost wise I want to spend £30k max so 2nd hand springs to mind. Am I right in thinking that most European vans dont come with a full size cooker like the Brit vans tend to???? Thanks again :->
Derek Uzzell
Off hand, I can't think of any 'Continental' motorhome that would have the type of cooker you have in mind. Probably the best you could reasonably hope for would be a 3-burner hob with a separate oven/grill, and you might be hard pushed to find the oven/grill other than on models destined for the UK market. (I'm ignoring the tiny, head-height thing perched on the top of Dometic's Tec-Tower appliances as I don't consider that a 'proper' oven.) If a full-size cooker is a must-have, then you are probably going to be restricted to UK-built motorhomes and I've no idea if any of these will meet your layout criteria (or budget). Eura Mobil's Activa range usually contains one or models with designs that come close to what you are seeking, but there would still be conflict with the kitchen appliances fitted and I'm not certain if your 'belts rear-facing seats' requirement would be met either. They are also big, dear and (if you are going to exploit the carrying capacity of a "double garage") will be heavy in weight and in fuel consumption. My McLouis Tandy has a SMEV full oven, grill and 4 burner hob as standard. Made in Italy, bought in Spain.
