Hello all, I've accidentally deleted 1 pic and if poss can I recover it? I'm on Vista, system restore did nowt, (as I thought), please no back up lectures, I feel bad enough as it is..I genuinely hadn't got round to doing it and hadn't set up a scheduled task for it DOH! It's not still on the camera either.

Any help well received and thankyou in advance

On the " I could scream... " thread there is some info about recovering lost images - don't know if it applies in your case as it's related to cards rather than drives - but might be worth a look. ( See Way2Go comment 12/8).

Good luck anyway.

Can't you go back to 'start' on your putor Martyn and just click on 'search'. Info such as a name or file ref. should bring it up. Failing that you could have a look down the chair/settee cushions where most of my 'lost and found' usually ends up.

There's always the ultimate backup, that's assuming we are talking holiday snaps (I don't take snaps, I paint with light). Buy another ticket and go back.

Here we go again, grrr, no joy yet, Colin/Phil I tried a couple of the free downloads but to no avail, Maggyd, the pic was from the laptop not the card so no joy there.

Mick, at this rate jumping on a private jet and getting the pic again might be a better option than telling the Missus 8-)

I've still got at least one other option, a friend who's a right clever beggar with these things, he's on hol though and when he's back, maybe he can save my life..

Thanks again everyone so far

Howie, prepare to roll yer eyes, it was taken specially for 2 very good friends of ours who are, (and will remain so at this rate!), completely unaware of some elements of the politically incorrectness of our French holidays.

In the tiny village we visit over there, there is a wonderful little shop that sells just about everything, outside they pile up their fresh fruit & veg and right next to the bananas etc are 2 petrol pumps!! And I mean right next to it, a matter of inches.

Now this might seem a tad trifling to some, (all?), of you but when you know b****r all about France and some of it's antics we thought the pic summed up the place rather well.

As for deleting it, I'd made a copy of the pic, (don't ask), on the desktop and deleted it later only to find it had deleted it from the picture folder too! Perhaps that is peculiar to Vista, I don't know, but I'm certain that didn't happen on XP or I wouldn't have done it would I?

Someone on the Computer Active forum has recommended this one - freeware/donationware, says it works on image files and on files emptied from recycle bin, but I haven't tried it

http://www.recuva.com/

Hellp Peter, thanks, I've tried it this morning as it happens, it found 5 images, one of which I hadn't taken but was from the web!! Sadly it didn't find mine :-(

Not often you get that perfect day or occasion that captures the mood as you discribed Martyn, even rarer to get it down on film, and to lose it really is a shame. After all the advice and tips given fail to find it then i,m afraid it might be a lost cause, but don't give up yet.

Hello Sylvia, how wonderfully kind of you!!!

The village is St Julien De Lampon, about 12km west of Souillac. You cannot fail to see the shop, (and it's petrol pumps + veg), in the village, it's just before the crossroads as you arrive from the River Dordogne side. If you're ever that way we would be very grateful to you indeed.

Wish we were there now, we love the place to bits.

Not trifling at all.

It's the kind of thing we like about France as well. In fact we saw something similar when we were there a few weeks ago. We stayed in a village where there was a small restaurant with a few tables outside, and next to the tables - fuel pumps !

Appeared to be in working order as well.

I'm sure it could never happen over here -

I wish you the best of luck in recovering, or replacing, your pic.

That looks like a very kind offer from Randonneur to me - ( I'd take him up on it !)

Sorry for the delay, but have only just noticed the thread before leaving for France ourselves.

It is a little bit off track, but I could not help noticing the very 'French' attitude of having a petrol pump next to fruit and veg and though that you all might like to see a similar example from a bygone age.

The picture below shows the main street in Oradour-sur-Glane and the rusty thing is the town petrol pump, which as you can see is adjacent to the tram tracks!

For those that do not know, Oradour-sur-Glane is the town destroyed by the SS as a reprisal operation in 1944.

Here is a view of the shop that Martyn was talking about a few months ago. What you cannot 'smell' from the photo are the petrol fumes; but still they would make any subsequent barbeque go with a bang!

Just got back from France today, a bit of a weather shock to our systems, as it was 20+ and sunny in St. Remy when we left.
