Terrytraveller Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Hi All, We are going to the NFOL for the first time - see link http://www.nfol2008.co.uk/ . I am told that it will be a brilliant long weekend, and will be pleased to meet/chat to any forum member, we will be listening out on channel 4 of the walkie talkie (PMR) sets. Regards Terry
JohnP Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 No not going. It worked out to expensive for fuel because I can only be away for the weekend due to work. Will leave it until next year when it is just down the road at Blenheim Palace near Oxford.
H1GBV Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 We're in "Rudolph" - we've always enjoyed FoLs in the past and Nationals are the best, often with some bargains in the accessory stands. We're not too sure about the theme, though, as we're having difficulty getting past Xmas trees and holly wreaths! However, it'll be good to see some members. Gordon
graham Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Yes we are going. It is a good weekend. We are getting a bit nervous about the weather though. We have been to 2 mudbaths before which makes exiting the site a long, painful exercise. It must be very wet there and more heavy rain is forecast. Oh well, hey ho.
Terrytraveller Posted August 14, 2008 Author Posted August 14, 2008 Hi Graham, I've been looking at the web to try to find out what the site is like, the map the organisers have put up is not very helpful, there is no legend, so although they have colours on the map I assume is for the pitching areas, the map has no text that can be read. I tried to match the orientation against an aerial view - didn't get anywhere. Last weekend an event was cancelled because the ground was flooded out would you believe the performers were called Waterboys - I would have thought they would be in their element *-) I can't believe these showgrounds are so exposed to a few drops of rain, RAF Fairford was cancelled a few weeks ago, must have lost tens of thousands of pounds. Whats wrong with them all - we all know it rains, what are drains for, why can't they get there finger out? Thats Better (lol) Regards Terry
graham Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 Yes I had a look at the site map as well without much success. Our experience has been that generally the showgrounds are not to bad. They normally have criss/cross tarmac to get in and around the site and it is often only a few feet off road to park, but I have no experience of Pickering. Our worst times have been when it has rained hard at the stately home sites. With some of them you can access the grounds ok but at some point several hundred vehicles have to pass through a gate into a field. Get rain and restricted access and you know what will happen. The last time we got stuck we decided to stick to show grounds only and for the last few years the CCC have used them for the NFOL. Exeter last year even had hard standing but of course it was dry anyway. Oh well we shall see.
fred grant Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 exeter was far from dry graham me ansum - fred was sellin is best cider there!!!!! flagonofred
Mel B Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 A few drops of rain! Where have you been Terry!!! It's been raining most days for weeks and weeks up this end of the country ... work have been getting a bit twitchy about it all as it got very badly flooded last year, as did a lot of Hull. I know Pickering is further up but they've had a load of rain like us as well, there's a limit to how much the ground can take unfortunately, I just hope for Warners sake that the motorhome show doesn't have to be cancelled. 8-)
Terrytraveller Posted August 15, 2008 Author Posted August 15, 2008 I know Mel – typical British understatement, a few drops of rain. Any other nation apart from maybe southern Ireland and Belgium and Swindon Borough Council :'( would sort out the roads and dig a few ditches, it can’t be that difficult to predict that unless drainage is provided, flooding will ensue. Most of these events are booked two years in advance, starting decades ago, so they have had plenty of notice. Us Brits will not spend the money, Germans, French, Chinese will come in buy it all up and organise it properly soon :-S Regards Terry
maryowlgirl Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 Terry do you have to be a member of the Caravan & Camping club to join in also how much is it per unit please, thank you. I must say it sounds very good and we would like to join in if possible (provided we manage to get everything sorted on our Skipton site after our Fesival which is next weekend).
Terrytraveller Posted August 15, 2008 Author Posted August 15, 2008 Hi Mary, Fraid so - you have to be a member of the C&CC. I think the tariff this year was around £50 for the four days for two of us, have a look at the NFOL site on link http://www.nfol2008.co.uk/ . You do get alot of entertainment for your money. Although the booking is closed this year, next year at Blenham link http://www.nfol2009.co.uk/ is worth a look and a note in your diary. Regards Terry
