mel64
Help a would be Motorhome buyer like me an OAP but not strong in arm. 1989 Talbot 2.5Diesel Elddis nice van but no Power Steering. Is it possible to fit retrospectively. He would be looking for second hand parts, is it the same on other vehicles i.e Fiat Citroen or are these parts hard to find and fit. Ranger
Hi Mel64, has he tried to drive it, ie test run??????????I bought a 'van a while ago with no power steering, a rear wheel drive Renault Trafic, and it was no problem. If it was built with no power steering it probabley has a bigger than usual steering wheel to cope with the extra weight required to turn the wheels, and different gearing in the steering box to cope with it. I had an oil leak on my present 'van and no way could I turn the wheel so he may find that the gearing of the steering box can cope without power. Worth a try if he likes the 'van. tp002c784tp002c784tp
Hi Mel64 I had a Talbot Highwayman a few years ago and when I was buying it I asked if it had power steering, and I was told by the salesman it did not need it because as it had a Turbo Diesel they fitted 16 inch wheels and this made the difference, ( I muttered your kidding ) but I was very surprised to find it was a delight to drive, but at slow speeds it was a bit heavy Terry
davenewellhome
It is possible to fit power steering and yes, at parking speeds it is very helpful, especially with the diesel lump. The problem is the parts are rarer than rocking horse droppings! Try Delfin designs as they have for many years offered power steering conversion for the Talbot. D. mel64
Thank you all, it appears we look for the rocking horse. If we find it I will let you know.
