Randonneur Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 We have had this TV for a couple of years and are very pleased with it and on our old van (Rapido) we used a TV bracket from Wilkinsons which did the job perfectly. Now we have changed vans and have a Laika with a swivel slide-out in an upper wall unit and although the TV fits into the cupboard we need to replace the TV stand with a bracket that will reduce the height by about 2 inches and also will enable it to swivel downwards. It would be helpful if we could screw or bolt the new bracket onto the slide-out. The dinette seats in this new van are lower so the viewing angle has to be adjusted. We have tried to see if we could modify the bracket we have but because it is a swing-out one when we turn it on its side the TV is too heavy and just drops. Anyone any ideas?
Mr. Grumpy Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 We have recently fitted a 15" lcd into a cupboard in our m/h using a mount bought from Tesco for about £30. It has a double joint and the tv can also be angled up or down. Have a look at Tesco direct web site.
Abb Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Hello Randonneur, I just went through the trouble of changing the original bracket fitted to my new Rapido. Where Rapido positioned the brackets is too high for us. So I started looking around for suitable replacement. I bought two different brackets from Tesco thinking of keeping the one that fit best and returning the other. While I was fidling with the two brackets I realise that one part of one bracket that attachs to the TV fit nicely into the part that is fixed to the wall of the other bracket but with the added advantage of being able to lift the TV away for storage/usage in the home or hiding it somewhere secure in the van without having to unscrew the TV. This is the reason for me writing this note. If you are going to buy new brackets perhaps you would considere looking for brackets that give you this possibility without having to dismantle and unscrew. If you are anyone is interested in the idea, I'm more than happy to post some pictures of the brackets and how it's done.
Randonneur Posted August 18, 2008 Author Posted August 18, 2008 Thank you both for your replies. Abb, unfortunately the cupboard that the TV goes into has a swivel/slide-out and it is this that I am trying to afix a bracket. The TV slides into the cupboard on an angle and it is fine, it is just that when we pull the slide-out out, the TV is about 2 inches too high for proper viewing, if we could replace the attached TV stand with something else this would solve the problem. My other half doesn't want to put holes in the woodwork where it will show if he can help it. We could use the bracket we have but then you would be able to see the bolts and also the cupboard next to it has an up and over door so we wouldn't be able to use that either.
Mel B Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 I'm trying to imagine exacly what your set-up is, any chance of a picture of the current location and slide-out etc?
Guest Tracker Posted August 18, 2008 Posted August 18, 2008 Difficult to suggest a DIY solution without seeing it, but would it be possible to mount the TV on one sheet of thin, say 3 or 5mm plywood and mount a similar piece of wood onto the TV mounting bracket? If so, then the two sheets of ply could be linked by nuts and bolts fitted through both sheets via elongated slots in the wood so that when taken out of the cupboard the TV just drops down the elongated slots to the level you need it and pushed back up to store?

The bracket you have is exactly what I bought from Tesco, but instead of attaching the tv to it, you can make a drop plate that you screw to your existing bracket as well as screwing the tv to it as well but 2 inches lower than the level it is now. (just a thought!) Tommorow I will take one or two pictures of my contraption just to give an idea. in the meantime...bonne chance.
Randonneur Posted August 19, 2008 Author Posted August 19, 2008 Thanks all. These are some pics I have taken and hopefully will make it more clear. 1. The cupboard closed. 2. Cupboard open and the TV will only go fully in whilst on an angle. 3. The TV coming out on the platform. 4. When the TV is out we have to swivel it to see the screen. 5. This shows the strapping that we have to use to keep the TV stable. 6. This is the side of the cupboard (both sides are the same) and as you can see, if we put a bracket on the inside side of the cupboard the bolts would show and the side cupboard door would not open. I say bolts because I don't think ordinary screws would hold. The pics make seem overkill but it should show the problems. If we could find a bracket that we could afix to the pullout that will allow a tilt down then the problem will be solved, obviously the TV stand will be taken off.
Mel B Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 Ah-ha! I might have a solution!!! If you don't need the TV to actually move down, just tilt down you could try one of these: bracket I got one of these for our motorhome off eBay but you can get them on the internet anyway. Rather than attach it to the wall (or ceiling), I attached it upside down so that mouting plate is attached to the top of the shelf with the TV mounted on the bracket so it stands upwards. The bracket in use tilts downwards a bit. I've tried to draw it here so you can see what I'm on about, unfortunately I can't take a photo of it in our camper as we don't get it back until tomorrow from the repairers. You could attach it to the sliding plate if there is enough clearance for the bolts.
Brod Posted August 19, 2008 Posted August 19, 2008 As a matter of interest, and new to the sight, how did you attach the picture of the TV bracket to your post. Thank You
Randonneur Posted August 19, 2008 Author Posted August 19, 2008 Thanks Mel, It looks like it could be what we are looking for. We are able to undo the swivel from the base so that the bracket could be attached to it. Thanks once again, I knew someone would come up with an idea. Brod, When you are ready to submit a post there is a box that you have to check that says something like ' attach a file after posting' . This then allows you to browse for the picture you want to put onto your post. There is a maximum size for pics, I usually resize mine to 4" x 3", don't know what the maximum KB size is, but it will tell you if its too big.
