ford transit seats

Hi,

I have a 1987 Ford Transit Auto Sleeper Legend. The seats are of the lowback style and are getting a bit soft so I wish to replace them with a highback style.

Has anyone had an experience of this or could recommend a company that would be able to carry out this work.

I live in North Wales.

Many thanks.

These are links to 3 websites that might prove helpful:

You could also try GOOGLE-ing web-pages from the UK using "motorhome seating" as the search term.

Replacing your Legend's cab-seats with brand-new ones won't be cheap and you may wish to consider whether it makes economic sense to do this on a 21-year old motorhome. Unless the present seats are totally beyond repair, it might be preferable to have them repaired/recovered. (Tek Seating should be able to advise on the costs involved.)

If you do take the replacement route, you'll need to be careful that the new seats don't foul anything significant in the cab (eg. the handbrake). Also, I think your Legend's original low-back seats can be reclined flat to produce a pair of single beds, and it's quite likely that modern high-back seats either won't recline in that manner or the backs would be too long to fit the available space.

Another possibility might be to obtain a couple of good-condition seats from a car-breaker and have someone make up seat-bases (or adapters) to allow them to be fitted to your vehicle.

(Coincidentally, I've got two excellent condition, Recaro-made, ultra-high-back reclining seats languishing in my garage roof-space. However, they are competition- type and anyone not having a super-model-skinny derriere would have difficulty slotting into them. I've considered putting one on the driver's side of my Hobby, as this would usefully lower the seat-squab height, but there's not much benefit having a seat that grips your bum like a vice given the gentle cornering G-forces a motorhome can manage.)

Okay many thanks for replies, much appreciated. The seats are not so much broken but as they are lowback would not provide much protection in an accident, eg wiplash.

You are right to buy new would be expensive given the age of the vehicle so I will look in at the breakers yard.

Vehicle is in excellent condition and has just returned from SW France with no problems.

Thanks again. :-D
