Wills Wagon Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Do any of you have information on camp sites either walking distance of Bruges or where public transport is available.
Klyne Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 We stayed here earlier in the year http://www.davidklyne.plus.com/camping_and_recreatiepark_klein.htm There is a bus from the village (short walk) into Brugge. There is also a camping Memling http://www.campingmemling.be/ but I have not stayed there. David

michele Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Hi Chris, Stayed at both the Campsite didnt have anything on it so to speak but it was pleasant we didnt find a bus into town and walked it took us around half an hour not good near xmas as it was very cold indeed. The Aire is much closer and it was 15 euros per night right on the lake next to the boats very pleasant you pay when you leave. much closer and a really nice walk through the park and you come out in the middle of the town . have a nice time
MandyAndy Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Hi, Just thought you should know the Aire is now E22 or E22.50 a night, no idea why the price has shot up but Camping Memling must be rubbing there hands :-| We love it there and have had some great times exploring the place, make sure you take bikes if you can, they have a really organised cycle system all numbered and you can go for miles. Mandy

David Ihave stopped on memling in october on a few occasions, nice site, could be a bit dark (trees) near a supermarket, mc donalds, swimming pool, bus etc, to walk would probably tae about 20-30 minuets, not tried it due to a disability. pete
Usinmyknaus Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Hello Wills Wagon, Camping Memling is fine but can be busy. Suggest you go for a grass pitch as the hardstandings are a bit tight, unless you are very gregarious. Grass can be a bit soft though so caution advised. When busy the tent area can be a little noisy so we tend to prefer the pitches in the left hand corner as viewed from the entrance. These border a residential area and cycleway - with occasional moped - to the left and footpath and woodland straight-on. The staff speak good to passable English and we find them very helpful. Brugges is a great city to explore on foot or bike (superb cycleways), especially alongside some of the canals. To the centre, say "Bourg" we allow 25-30 minutes on foot, 15 minutes by bike. The site office has a good little leaflet headed "Bruges Today" on one side and "Bruges Tonight" on the other. Each side lists places to visit at the appropriate periods - with some great ideas. The map is just the right size to fit the pocket and has a good representation of the canals and most streets. I recommend walking right round the city on the main canal's paths as well as doing the centre. The no 11 bus can be taken from the stop about 5 minutes' walk from the site. They run every 20 minutes from 0700 to 2020 (I think Monday to Saturday but check with the staff). Sunday its every hour from 0700 to 1300 then every 20 minutes from 1300. Return is by the same number bus from "Markt" (square). There is an hourly evening/night bus but the times are too complicated to write here! There is a useful leaflet on bus times and routes available from the site office which they keep up to date and should provide all you need. You can buy tickets on the bus - about 1.60 Euros I think - or you can buy them from Del Haize with a 20% discount. There's a Del Haize, Carrefour, Lidl and Aldi supermarket all within 10 - 15 minutes walk from the site and there is a sports centre close by which can be reached by pleasant woodland paths. If any in your party have mobility problems, they will find walking along Maaise Steenweg - the early part of the jouney to the Centre on foot, is very uneven and frequently steeply angled across extremely narrow pavements mainly due to ramps for residential and business premises so the bus may be a better option.
