At last we have decided to take the camel by the horns and visit Morocco in Jan/Feb and part of March. We were going alone but are going with another couple.

We would like lots helpfull suggestions for our trip.

Should we pay a"bribe" to get through customs quicker, if so how much?

What about wild camping, should we give "goodies" to the kids begging etc etc etc etc

:-D :-D :-D

Hi no need to bribe any body at the border they may ask and some people fall for it and pay out 100 dirham or more, but its only a con you dont need to give them anything ,but as goodwill you can give them 20dirham for helping you get your paperwork as for wild camping it is no longer you have to use the campsites now but they are very resonable not like spain or uk hope you have a good trip we go out in Nov for our 8th year regards

We had a very enjoyable visit last year with detourer. He has a very informative booklet on Morocco which will answer a lot of your questions and I think may be available to people who travel independently as he is MMMs 'man in Morocco'.

Most sites' facilities are not up to UK standards but will provide a safe haven for you - apart from Source Bleu which is accesible to people from the village. The kids use the pool to swim and can be a bit of a nuisance.

Handing out 'goodies' encourages pestering with cries of 'stylos, bonbons'. If you want to give pens etc try a local school. We took pens, pencils, crayons, excercise books, pencil sharpeners and rubbers. We have found local schools in developing countries much more accessible to the unexpected visitor than in UK. Find a passing adult or child and ask for the head. But we were told no pictures of children without prior permission. Teachers have been happy to talk for 10 minutes or so about the system and show us around. It's a way of finding out a little of what happens away from tourist life.

I don't know if it would work for others visiting something in their own field eg nurses visiting a health clinic. (Obviously don't get in the way and distract those working from their jobs!)

If you're adaptable and prepared for Morocco to be different - then you'll enjoy it.
