daismarg Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 I was wondering if anyone has used the camp site at La Linea or Linea de la Concepcion called CAMPING SUREUROPA when visiting Gibraltar? I often go to Gib for the day from where I live but would like to take my motor home down and stay for a few days or so, so that I can show my OH the sites of Gibraltar which he has never seen! I would be interested to hear from any one who has stayed at the camp site and would like to know if there is public transport nearby to get you to the border or can you walk it??? Many thanks in advance! :-D
vagabond Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 We stayed at Camping SurEuropa twice last winter whilst we flew home from 'Gib'. It is a clean, friendly site, appended to a small sports centre and a day college for people with special needs. Don't let the pot holed (occasionally flooded) approach road put you off. You will struggle to get on there with a large vehicle. Ours is 7.2m and it was getting tight. There are lots of taxi's around 'Linea' to take you to the border and we saw motorhomers leaving for 'Gib' via public transport. We chose to drive close to the border and park for the day on 'Av de Espana' (free) returning to the site in the evening. From recollection, I would guess that it would take 45 mins to an hour to walk. There are no other facilities in the area of the camp site and the beach is best described at 'natural'. If seeing the sights of Gib are your main reason for staying at the site, then I would recommend it. Incidentally, we weren't allowed to leave our van on the site while we flew home, but were able to put it in secure
Tomo3090 Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 I'd agree with Vagabonds description of the site. We stayed there in June last year. We got the bus to the centre of La Linea to visit Gib. It stops about 200-300m from the site entrance and takes you right to the town centre and it is a short walk to Gib. It costs about 3 Euros one way for two adults, (or did!) We then got a taxi ride around the island. It was quite expensive, (£80GBP) but the driver was excellent, he knew all the history, he took us to all the stop off points and the cost even included the entrance to the various tourist attractions of the island. In the end we both agreed it had been worth spending the amount of money we did. BTW, we wouldn't go back to Gib, as interesting as it is I am of the opinion once is enough.
