Smev Hob Spares

Hi everyone

Have you ever tried to get replacement grommets for the Smev Hob pan stand? You know, the ones that hold the feet of the pan stand secure on the hob and stop them rattling?

They tend to cut through quite easily and I have had to replace them on a couple of vans - the last time I managed to get some from the Reimo stand at one of the indoor shows but they weren't quite the right size and even they didn't have any this time around.

I have rung several places with no joy - the last place said they not only had difficulty getting them but that often people took them off their showroom models!!

Then I tried my local car parts shop in the high street and bingo!! They had one that is an exact match but the bad news was that they are changing to pre-packaged items now and this particular grommet isn't included - so I bought the remaining ten for 50p.

I suspect that if I could get them from a specialist source they might be a little dearer.

Hi colin

Not sure what material they are - not usual rubber grommets but more like a PVC material. The main problem I have had is just through everyday cleaning of the pan support, lifting it in and out, seems to rub the grommet against the edge of the stainless steel hob and this eventually cuts through the grommet itself.

Quite a few places I contacted had the problem of these small grommets going 'missing' from hobs in display vans etc so I guess a few people have experienced it!

My own SMEV/Alde experience in 2003, when I needed a replacement grill-burner for my Herald's hob, was not a happy one. The exercise took over 9 months, involved 2 wrong parts been sent to Alde by the SMEV factory (near identical parts, but one priced at £30 and the other at £60) and ended up with me having the original failed burner assembly re-welded locally for £9. Hopefully Dometic's take-over of SMEV will improve spare parts ordering efficiency.

as someone has pointed out try o,learys they do smev spares but in my case they did not have the part i wanted so gave me a phone number to ring ,and had the part in days ( sorry lost the number)could try ringing o,learys

Thanks njw - but I don't need to try anymore - as I posted, earlier I simply went to the local car spares shop in the high street and they had just the thing! Much easier than faffing about with all the 'leisure specialist' outlets.

David - Hope they do not melt or burn with the heat.

Hi brambles

They seem to be exactly the same material as the originals and aren't situated close to the heat source but I expect they will suffer the same problem - gradually being sliced in two where they go through the hob surface - but at least I have a few spares now.

Dave,

When you went to the car spares shop how were they described (the grommets not the car spares shop)? Were they the same beige colour (the grommets....)?

Our local shop only has black electrical grommets.

Andy.

Hi Andy

The grommets in my hob are black and a hard, shiny plastic material - the car shop said they were electrical grommets so the ones they showed you could be the same - I took the last remaining half of an old one and it matched perfectly. Have used them now and no problems.
