sky set up

We have a 60cm. manual dish on the roof of our motorhome. With this we use a standard sky box using a 600 watt inverter. This will run the tv and also a video.

We have found this works well and only takes a couple of minutes to set up, we receive all the local programmes as far south as the north of Spain and even in the very south always can find something to view. We do not subscribe to sky but if we did the choice would be greater.

We have seen many with expensive automatic dishes but never felt the need to shell out all that cash. In fact we have just ordered a new motorhome at the Pickering show and have also asked for a maxview manual dish to be fitted.

Hope this helps, and no doubt you will get many more veiws on this matter.

Have fun, Sooty

We would like to be able to receive Sky channels, such as Sky Sports, so need full access.

Luckily, most of the 'Sky' channels are on pan European beams so you should be OK with a reasonable size dish.

The main problems are the 2d (UK beam) channels, which are harder to get once you get further from the UK.

Channel 5, a few ITV1 channels (available in the add channels) and C4's HD version (you need a Sky HD box to receive it) are available widely over Europe.

Sky News and BBC News are on pan-European beams.

we also want to watch satelite tv whilst abroad.not bothered about sport, but would love to keep up with corrie etc.we have been told it ISN'T possible to get english channels unless we have a very large dish, which of course is impossible on a motorhome.

That depends on how far from uk you go, see below to get some idea as to what reception people get with differant size dishes, note it's the BBC reception you need to bear in mind, encripted sky can be picked up further afield

Hi Minstrel

I have Maplin version of your set, and use one of the alloy camping rotary clothes line kits,( without the clothes line bit!) I have put loops of guy line through the holes in the bottom of the legs which I peg out tight. Have had no problems with this set up in moderate winds. Also can quickly pop the top back on and convert to washing line if we have to. Cost about £18 complete with storage bag.
