Patricia
I may have to move where I cannot have a landline and so will rely on mobile phone dongles for access to the internet. Does anyone know whether the Hawking HWU8DD USB dish will help increase that sort of signal e..g. 3G?
davenewellhome
Hi Patricia, In a word no, it won't. The dish/adapter is a WiFi receiver with a dish type antenna, this will not connect to mobile phone networks. D.

Andy T
Hi Patricia, Would suggest you contact the Boaters Phone Company. They sold me an aerial for my Motorola which dramatically improves its effectiveness. They also do antennas for laptop dongles etc. They are at www.boatersphone.com or on 01535 669233 or 07970 459638. No connection to me (excuse pun) other than as a customer! Regards, Andy. Patricia
Thank you very much Andy for that info. I've had a quick look at their site, which looks very useful, and will speak to them directly I can get the dongle to work on my laptop anyway! Have no trouble connecting with T-Mobile dongle but the Three dongle doesn't want to play at the moment so will have to contact them first. Probably will find that it is to do with the settings on my computer. Thanks again Patricia
hymer634
Hi, you could try an old satellite dish with the dongle at the focal point instead of the lnb. You will need a longer usb cable. It works for wifi so it should also work at 3g frequencies. Take a look at : http://binarywolf.com/249/parabolic.htm Alan

No Patricia it is NOT a silly question - it is a very valid question and the level of information that respondents provide is a credit both to you for asking and to them for taking the trouble to reply. This is what forums are all about.
