Tony Jones Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 I've just been reading the Motorcaravanners Club magazine and saw an article by Jack Bancroft explaining why he'd completely changed his mind about reversing cameras. After saying for years that only people who can't drive need them, he's now convinced they should be fitted to all motorhomes which don't have usable rear windows. What changed his mind was a "near miss" on his own home turf. But all that doesn't make much difference to me, as I've got a window. I'm really posting just to say how refreshing it is to see someone of his (our?) age and experience willing to say out loud "I was wrong." So many of us get to a "certain age" and assume we know everything we need to know, we're always right, and no-one can tell us anything. We seem to think changing our view, or admitting we've been wrong, is a sign of weakness, when actually it takes real strength of character. So I don't know if he reads this forum (as he writes in "another" magazine) but ... well done Jack, thanks for setting an example. Tony
Tony Jones Posted October 8, 2008 Author Posted October 8, 2008 No idea - I just assumed he was Jack Bancroft. PLEASE don't tell me he's the new owner of Brownhills :-D !
J9withdogs Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Don Madge - 2008-10-08 12:25 PM Tony, Do you know who Jack Bancroft is? Don He's not Don Madge's alter ego is he ;-)
malc d Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 There's one on Wikipedia who was a Welsh cricketer, but he was born in 1879 and died in 1942 - so I'm guessing it's not him. ;-)
J9withdogs Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 He writes a lot of articles for Practical Motorhome
Tony Jones Posted October 8, 2008 Author Posted October 8, 2008 Doh!! Now you've gone and done it Janine! The Mods will surely pull the thread now you've named the "other magazine!" (Edit) So come on Don, I can see you're online. Tell all before the thread disappears forever!
Don Madge Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 Tony, My lips are sealed but I'll give you a couple of clues. There's a photo of him on page 7 of Septembers MMM and he owns a much publicised "Tea Caddy". Don
Tony Jones Posted October 8, 2008 Author Posted October 8, 2008 Not convinced. Jonathan Lloyd's photo and writing style are fairly similar, but not conclusively the same - and why the nom-de-plume? Surely a freelancer can write for more than one mag - and as Jack he already does, appearing in both "the-one-that-Janine-named"and the MCC club mag. Anyway, whoever he is, "Chapeau!" - as they say during Le Tour.
Derek Uzzell Posted October 9, 2008 Posted October 9, 2008 Tony: Gentleman Jack Bancroft and Jonathan Lloyd are indeed the same person, but I've no idea why JL chose the GJB nom-de-plume. I could tell you an entertaining GJB anecdote, but I'd better not!

tp002c784tp002c784tp Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Hi Tony Talking about reversing cameras I have not had one fitted on my Motorhome yet, but I have fitted reversing sensors and I had a pleasant surprise yesterday when renewing my insurance, the young lady asked if I had a camera fitted or reversing aids and when I replied yes I got a discount on my insurance. Canny good Eh Terry
Stuart Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Terry, As a matter of interest, would you care to share with us the name of the insurance company please? Stuart
camper69 Posted October 10, 2008 Posted October 10, 2008 Many motorhome magazine contributors use different names for different magazines mainly so those who read all or most of them don't get fed up with seeing the same name everywhere, like you do with John Wickersham for example. Even in the same magazine an author may use different names for different types of features ie: one for travel, another for tests. Another reason is that the editor/publisher might like 'that name' to write exclusively for them hence the need to use another name for other magazines.
