alan
Hi All Some advice would be gratefully received. We're trying to organise a family get together on the south edge of the New Forest so that the younger ones can get to the beach and have a cycle in the forest. We're rather a mixture, one section of the family are tuggers, one section tenters and us grandparents with a motorhome. We're looking for a site preferably small of the CL type, with toilet and shower and electrical hook ups, or a small commercial site. Amy advice from past experience will be warmly received. CliveH
Second that Here is the link to the Forsestry Commission website http://www.newforest-online.co.uk/new-forest-campsites-caravan.asp And of course there is:- http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/results3.asp?search=new+forest&by=town One thing i would say is that whilst the Forest is beautiful everywhere - if you want easy access to the sea - do watch out for the fact that on the western edge of the Solent (South Eastern edge of the New Forest you have the Fawley Oil Refinery. So whilst on the map it may look as though getting to a beach would be easy, in reality the best beaches are towards Bournemouth. So I would suggest that virtualy anywhere in the Forest is suitable. There is a new site recently opened by the Caravan Club and the reviews seem very good - http://ukcamp.com/sites/reviews.asp?revid=7302 Only critiscm seems to be it is new and that the trees are not that big yet! But if Christchurch is only 3 miles away then this could suit as the beach at Christchurch is good. Hope this helps.
Rainbow-Chasers
Sandy balls is nearby, they have good facilities and are open all year. In fact, if you go in depths of winter, you get an award called something like frosty balls! lol!
CliveH
Certainly is a lovely site with excellent facilities. We are lucky enough to live just a few miles away and so use the facilities in the winter months. Personaly I think the Sandy Balls site gives excellent value for money compared to some sites in the forest that charge a huge amount for not a lot! - apart from easy access to the forest. I would say that a trip to the beach would be a bit of a treck tho' as Sandy Balls is actually just outside the New Forest boundary about as far North in the Forest as you can get. But - the local recreation ground at Fordingbridge has a "beach" on the R. Avon that looks very popular in the summer! It looks like the muppets of the new New Forest National Parks Agency (NPA) are determined to destroy the forest - so i would suggest people come and see it soon before the idiots change it. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/hampshire/7652320.stm
alan
Hi All Many thanks for all your suggestions, we will put them forward at the family conference and all arguments and discussions should be finished in time to get a late booking at any of the sites!
