Don Madge
I was under the impression that the EHIC was valid for five years but following a thread on MHF it appears some are only valid for three years. As they came into force on the 31st December 2005 and they were issued from September 2005 some could now be out of date. So if you are planning to travel shortly get em checked. Patricia
Think it was a complete mix-up. I received two and when I queried this I was told to keep the one with the furthest date - 2012.
Guest Tracker
I got mine in 2006 and it shows an expiry date in 2009!
LordThornber
Nice one Don, we have just returned from France and I have checked the cards upon reading your post and they expired 3 days before we actually went away!! We're insured of course but that's not the point, I'll get then renewed and thanks again. Martyn

Philman
My wife and I got ours within days of the changeover from the E111 form in 2005. In July we received 2 new cards which expire in 2013. So it seems as if the first ones were for 3 years and subsequent renewals are for 5 years. We did not apply for the renewals they just came in the post. Very efficient. Phil.
