Hi Caroline,

Read in one of the replys for the NEC show a mention of Caravan Salon Dusseldorf show.

Have you been?

Yes.

What is it like?

Excellent, big and airy and lots to see.

How did you go?

Last year we went by car via Dover/Calais but this year we went in the motorhome via Harwich/Hook of Holland.

Where did you stay?

Last year we stayed in a hotel in Dusseldorf, very posh and very nice with an excellent restaurant downstairs. This year we stayed in our motorhome in the camping area of the exhibition centre.

Was looking in to perhaps going next year any tips?

Do it, you won't regret it. :D

D.

we parked on the site provided, easy to find with good directions .if you can| arrive on opening day as you all park in lines with not a lot of space between. you can fill up with water & empty tanks before you park at entrance .a free bus service is provided to take you to the show. also free buses in the evening into dusseldorf.

We've done it a couple of times now, lots of new motorhomes, quite a few makes that we'd never heard of an don't get in Britain. Very few accessory stalls. Must admit we really enjoyed it both times. You stay on the 'car park' overnight - they charge you for your day's parking and that entitles you to stop overnight. If you get there late afternoon you can stop for that night, you pay for the parking for the following day and that entitles you to stop for that night as well. The free buses into Dusseldorf old town are worth taking advantage of, it's a very nice place to wander around and have a meal out, lots of restaurants to choose from, just go down side streets to find the better value ones.

If I could get the r*ddy search facility to work properly I'd put a link on to previous postings on the subject .... 8-)

It's the best, well sorted parking arrive after 4pm and you do not pay for that day. Close to the river Rhine 5 Min's walk, turn right and cycle or walk on the excellent tarmacked path you'll come to a nice pub( don't know what its like left wallet in the MH) and a slipway to a small ferry amazing to watch him cross side ways against the strong current.

Turn left about 20mins ride you arrive in Dusseldorf, most interesting place.

As previously stated you need 2-3 days and the food by the water station by the main entrance is also very good. Our second time this year and we'll be back next year to sample the delights of Dusseldorf more. Unlike the NEC they always fit you in to camp unlike the CC.

Guest JudgeMental

Have been twice and its great...wanted to go this year but timing was wrong.

They turn no one away, last year we arrived late Friday and they accommodated everyone on the access road....and moved them onto grass pitches during the next couple of days...we just stayed where we where.

We were drinking the blonde beer and realised everyone around was drinking the dark "Alt" beer..... absolutely wonderful stuff lol

The old town (only area not flattened during WW2) is great also with brilliant bars and lovely restaurants.

There's a website (in English) at : http://tinyurl.com/8hmj8

Dates for next year are : 28.08.2009 - 06.09.2009

Where did you stay?

Seeing that this year was our fifth visit, obviously we reckon it's good.

We always stay on the 'Caravan Center'and in both the last two years I've managed to get onto the area with the electricity.

Someone suggested going at the start of the show. I'd advise against it as the weekends are *extremely* busy. We try to aim for arriving on the Monday around noon, well before the 4pm cutoff when the new arrivals are allowed in for their 'free' night, and just pay the extra.

First call, the water station to dump grey and toilet waste and fill up with fresh water.

The office is right next to it. Pay camping fees, buy show tickets (2 day is best deal) and catalogue. You can then get onto the camping area without waiting in a queue of several hundred motorhomes !

There is now no discount available for CC/C&CC/DCC or any other club membership. The only discount now available is to members of the Caravan Salon Club. It's free to join and you can do so on-line at :

http://tinyurl.com/5k2ujy (in German only). The option you need is the link which says, 'Werden Sie hier kostenlos Mitglied'. (Become a free member here)

Hope that helps.
