leisure battery problem

I couldn't work out why my leisure battery was slowly discharging when parked up. I checked and double-checked that everything was switched off and was about to replace the battery.

Then, one very quiet morning as I was pondering the situation in the van I heard the slightest whirring noise. Upon investigation I discovered that the truma heater fan, although swtched to zero, was still very slowly moving.

I had assumed that the zero position meant off but the actual on/off switch was still on. When I switched that switch off as well as the fan, lo and behold the battery stopped discharging.....so I thought I'd pass on the info in case someone else makes the same mistake?

I've a 2004 copy of Truma's operating instructions for the Trumavent-Fan fitted to many Trumatic S-Series 'fires'. The drawings of the control-unit show a rotary control for fan speed and a 3-position switch. The latter's positions are for manual control of the fan (eg. for ventilation), automatic operation (ie. the fan speed automatically adjusts according to the heater's output) or Off.

However, the description of the Off position adds "or automatic operation/heating with heaters Trumatic S-3002K and S-5002K). The implication of this statement appears to be that, with those particular Truma heaters, unless the heater itself is switched off the possibility exists of the fan continuing to operate despite the switch on the fan's control-unit having been moved to the Off position. Presumably that's what was happening in your case.

As I haven't got Truma's Operating Instructions for S-3002K or S-5002K heaters I don't know if there's any warning about this in them, but, as it's something an owner wouldn't expect to happen, thanks for pointing it out.

No, your Bessacarr has a Truma C-Series combination air/water heater and, unless the heater is running, neither of its fans will operate.

(I've re-read cruiser's posting and I now think he may be saying that, if the rotary control-knob that selects the fan-speed is turned to its minimum position but the Off setting on the 3-position switch is not selected, then the fan will continue to run slowly. If that's the case, then it wouldn't surprise me much, and would make more sense than my earlier crystal-ball guesswork.)
