nightrider
I'm going out for the day today, I need a break, I have no problems myself financial or otherwise but the pressure of listening to other peoples problems is getting me down, there is nothing I can do for them I dont have a magic wand, think I will spend the day up in Skipton, have something to eat, pull the bed out, turn the heating on and read the Sunday papers then go out and feed the ducks on the canal bank. J9withdogs
That sounds like a good plan to me, hope you enjoy! I've done the same on Christmas day in the past - gone to the top of the Long Mynd, complete with turkey sandwiches and a good book. Heaven! J9withdogs
I get fed up with everyone else's expectations of me, so I just please myself. Selfish maybe, but at least one of us has a great time!
nightrider
We hit the M66 this morning heading for Skipton, en-route we called into Winfields mega store to buy one or two things namely wet weather gear and a new water container, if ever you are in the area do yourself a favour and call in, they have everything that you want in clothes shoes and camping gear and best of all the price is right. As we came out of Winfields the heavens opened, we ended up on the big carpark next to the canal in Skipton town centre about 1pm with the rain lashing down, so it was a case of on with the diesel fired van heating and the old eggs and bacon sizzling in the pan, pulled the bed out and had a nice read of all the doom and gloom in the sunday papers all cosy and warm, we stayed there till about 5pm then set back off for home, nicely relaxed and chilled out. I was really surprised at the amount of campervans flying about, there were loads of em but what really amuses me is that on the carpark there were only one or two cars but about 20 campervans and the thing that really really amused me was the fact that instead of these vans being spread out over a huge empty carpark they were all next to one another? could that be a herd instinct or kindred spirits? twooks
saw a couple sat in their car - on Tesco's car park at Clifton Moor York, complete with sandwiches and flask. the weather wasn't too bad - not actually raining the sandwiches were wrapped in tin foil - so clearly brought from home they were in the absolute middle of the car park - so nothing but other cars to look at [not that there's much to see anyway] why ?????????????????????? I know we're all different and so enjoy different things but a picnic on Tesco's car park, that's even worse than pulling into the side of a busy A road - at least that's got the added spice of a bit of danger :D :D B-)
Mel B
Maybe they were doing a lot of major shopping (not groceries), ie looking for this and that, which can take a long time and rather than waste time and money buying lunch they'd taken it with them. We've certainly done that, did the same when we were looking for a second property to buy a few years back, sat at the side of the road in a layby on a housing estate, noticed some new houses being built, had a shuftie, found the deals too good to miss (better than buying a 'secon-hand' home and refurbishing it), and signed upon the dotted an hour later! nightrider
michele - 2008-11-09 1:00 PM you know christmas is and can be quite a sad time cant it. its a lot of hype not everyone has someone .Not everyone want to celebrate it do they ... Christmas can be a great time for some..... but for a lot of others it can be the worst time of the year particularly for the bereaved, divorced and the separated, a time when they lock the door behind them and pray for the festive season to end. I used to run a singles club and some of the tales of lonliness were heartbreaking, been there, seen it, done it, read the book and starred in the film, dont want it again.
