The tragic thing about the forums section of the Out&AboutLive website is not that its (ramshackle) structure leads to postings appropriate to one forum being placed on another less suitable, but that it seems to be deliberate Warners policy to encourage this to happen.

It would be simple and take minimal effort to revamp the description of each forum to remove any current ambiguity. Although this wouldn't stop someone deliberately or accidentally posting to the 'wrong' forum, it would certainly assist forum members (particularly newcomers) in deciding what should go where. I've suggested this more than once to the Warners forum administrators - nowadays I save my breath.

Hi guys, as a new user can I just add my twopenneth worth in?...

It isn't easy as a new user (and in my case not computer minded) to a join in without feeling a little tentative and worried about asking anything silly.

I'm sure this was not intended to put off new users, but I'm now thinking should I type this and if so is it in the right place? Surely that is going to be off putting to all the new kids on the block?

I wasn't fully aware of chatterbox (told you my mind and anything to do with computers seem to be just that little bit out of grasp,) but surely like me, when reading through subjects you can skim through what is not relevant to you?

Sorry to sound like a grumpy old women!

to the judge - oi - 'I heard' that

to Derek - Agreed, this has to be one of the worst laid out sites around, I know it's better than its previous incarnation but it could do to be revamped and given a fresh coat of paint

to the lady with the Rapido - if you look in the Welcome box to the top right of this thread you'll see an option for 'new threads' click on that and you'll see all activity on all threads since you last logged on

and if we seem off putting then please accept my apologies, perhaps if regular users checked the status of the poster of a thread they could temper their response, barracking between friends and or long term adversaries >:-) is one thing but shouldn't frighten newbies

Lumpy I think you have missed the point .

Perhaps its the way I tell em.

Anyone is welcome all (lol) welcome to you also .

Its not about the mode of transport its about who puts what where .

If you have a serious question that you need answering be it about a M/home or a Caravan I really wouldnt suggest that for a Caravan or Trailer that its best placed on M/home matters however I am sure that no one would turn you away and would all try their hardest to help and answer you .

Hopefully we can have a revamp and have some new topics headers and introduce new stuff like a Blogg photo section travels and advice etc .

I do hope I have not confused people more now .

Doesnt chatter box mean what is says, does it matter, we are all people who like camping , it should,t matter what mode of transport we use

I think you are absolutely right.

Under the "Chatterbox" heading it says :

'Chat about anything and everything '

So what's the problem - it seems to me that some people just take it all a bit too seriously.

:-( :-( :-(

I think that, by and large, this forum works very well and all that is really needed is a little more tolerance towards others by some members.

I have been on this forum for over a year and its the first time I have clicked on new threads (thanks to your advice) now that makes sense to be able to see what has been written on all threads and then that way you answer in the correct spot.

Thanks twooks

Brambles:

Chatterbox is a 'forum' rather than a thread.

On the Homepage listing of forums, it's between the "Camping" and "Sites and Places to Stay" sections. Otherwise you can go straight to it by descending to the "Jump to forum" option towards the bottom of this page, selecting "+ Chatterbox" and clicking on the GO-button.

Having had another look at the descriptions of the forums' purposes as shown on the Homepage, I've concluded that - rather than try to revise the descriptions to remove any ambiguity, it would be preferable just to remove all non-necessary descriptions.

So the "Motorhomes" section would have 3 'undescribed' sub-sections entitled

Motorhome Matters

Hints & Tip

Your Views

The "Caravans" section would be comprise

Caravan Chat

Towing Chat

Your Views

The "General Chat" section would have one undescribed item in it

"Chatterbox"

And so on...

It might be useful for descriptions to be applied to some categories (eg. the Shows) but, generally speaking, less looks like being more in this instance. As it's plain that the present descriptions can contribute to 'wrong forum' postings, getting rid of superfluous descriptions is the KISS solution.
