But remember, we have the last laugh like the Welsh and the Scots - we're not English >:-) >:-) >:-) >:-) >:-) >:-) >:-)

No but like the Welsh and Scottish you are not too proud to accept any amount of aid created for the EU by the English and distributed by those very nice morons in Brussels!

Mind you, I do have to admire the way the Irish very quickly learnt how to use the system to rebuild their country after too many years of separation from a so called developed nation!

From my very enjoyable holidays in your great country I soon learnt that the difference between an Irishman and a Scotsman is the Irishman smiles whilst he takes yer money!

Carol. in my part of the world (Ireland) talking 's*1te' is an art form indulged in by all and sundry usually in drink. It is not considered an expletive. It means talking a load of nonsense just for the sake of it.

My point is that some of the contributors here obviously think that dressing up their arguments in 'dictionary' English shows some sort of superiority.

Well in that case Parkmoy, BGD is of world class standard in the Art of talking "s*1te." (lol) :D

Creature Bleating -

I am, as ever, honoured that my feeble attempts have been rewarded with a renewed bleat from you.

We know that you are most generous in your bleats for many other forum members, but I remain proud that you see fit to bleat especially fulsomely upon my posts.

I remain your humble servant.:-D

Now now Bruce - don't be greedy - the Wellingborough Whinger dislikes me as much as (if not more than!) he dislikes you - but as he disliked me first I claim seniority in the hate stakes!

Rich -

I reckon I've managed to get more and louder bleating noises from Creature Bleating in the past week or two though...........think you need to buck your ideas up and put a bit more effort into your "prod the Creature Bleating" game if you want to hang on to the title. :D

I don't like or dislike either of you. Why would I?as I don't know you. I just enjoy winding you both up. I only have to type a few words and BGD launches of into a 500 word essay in reply. Then out pops Tracker, who isn't so eloquent as BGD and strokes his ego.

Over to you.

Trouble is Malcolm that whereas most of us can agree to disagree like adults some on here and naming two - Peter and Crinkly do seem more keen on having a go at people rather than what the rest of us do- i.e. just chat, exchange views and have a bit of a laugh.

And as I have said before - thier behaviour shows us all what sort of people they are, in exactly the same way as our behaviour does of course. So are you happy with what you post?

Does it seem mature and sensible?

Are you happy with the image your posts project?

I think most of us are - but even Crinkly and Peter must think about what the post from time to time and think "God - I am a prat".

Because to quote :-

"Experience is an expensive school, but a fool will learn from no other".

sums up their posts rather well.

To quote you CliveH :

" Are you happy with the image that your post projects ?"

" I think most of us are "

I would argue that none of us know what image we project - we only think we do.

I would guess that most people decide for themselves before they post whether or not they think it's "mature and sensible"

Other people decide what our image is, not us.

Never had a problem with my self image Brian!

Malcolm - I was talking about self image - not how others see us.

Self image is important, it is linked to how happy, sad, angry, calm you are as a person.

But you were talking about "............... the image your post projects"

Surely that means ' how others see you '

Yes exactly - so if I told someone to "bugger off back to a tuggers Forum" (which is what happened to me) I would

a) have to be happy or insensitive enough to post that sort of post in the first place and

b) expect that the image I project is not a very positive one.

Sometimes a post is inadvertantly controversial and that is why the emoticons are important.

Image is of course about how others see you, but it is also about how you see yourself.

My image of people who are rude to others on Forums is small nerdy people who have a low self image or are put upon by Boss/family/wife and get thier revenge from the safety of a keyboard.

i.e. a person deeply unhappy with their self image.

In contrast I see BGD's image as a go out party guy who is capable of entertaining us all! - and the picture says that in spades.

Tracker for example come accross a s being a bit of a laugh and someone not scared to "cross the line" to have that laugh.

Quite happy to hear what others think of me!

Should I duck?

(lol)

(No need to duck on my account).

In the end I suppose it just depends whether or not we care about how others see us.

( I wonder how Robert Mugabe sees himself ? )

As for your views of named people on the forum I can only say:

" That may well be what you think, I couldn't possibly comment"

I am not overly bothered about what people think of me as long as I haven't done anyone any harm I am happy in my own skin, I am not on this earth to win popularity contests, If I have anything to say I will say it, you can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time.

And as Voltaire said, I might not agree with what that man says, but I will fight to the death for that mans right to say it.

Which brings me to the rather crass statement by Parkmoy, he says not to stand in the way of people rushing to criticise England or you will be injured in the crush.

So what about the thousands of his countrymen and women who have flocked to England over the last two hundred years? What about the thousands of would be immigrants from the third world clamouring to be admitted to England to avail themselves of our housing, welfare benefits, education, medical care, freedom from religious and political persecution?

People from Africa, Russia the Baltic states, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan et al, I dont see these people queueing up to enter America, Canada, Australia, France, Italy, Germany and Ireland, no they are massing on the other side of the channel awaiting their chance to hit the jackpot by sneaking into England. Throughout English history it was the English who welded the Scots, Welsh and Irish into what we are now GREAT BRITAIN, if you dont like us Peter you know what you can do?

You will no doubt be relieved to know that not only do I not want to have Clive's babies I would not want him to have mine either!

Not far wrong there with your thoughts on my image though Clive - and I'll settle for any kind words from anyone these days! Thanks!

Now Clive, I reckon, is like many folk on here - a diamond geezer who does not suffer fools gladly.

I consider that his financial knowledge and opinions are sound and honest and he, again like many of us, is obviously a staunch supporter of Grasping Gordon the Loony Laird of Downing Street and his little puppet Abysmal Alastair the Darling of the Depressed!

Malcolm X - sorry to be a bit of a pedant, but the Irish aren't in Great Britain (well, except the ones who now live in Great Britain).

Great Britain is made up of two countries (England and Scotland) plus the subsidiary principality of England known as Wales.

If you want to add Northern Ireland to the mix, then you need to refer to the group as the "United Kingdom"; that is shorthand for the full title of "The Union": the full title is " The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland".

(Most of the island of Ireland isn't even in the "United Kingdom" at all of course, being the independent separate country called "Eire".)

Pedantic moment now over..........

That was my point Clive, it just illustrates the difference between your self-image, and the image others have formed of you.

O wad some Pow'r the giftie gie us, To see oursels as others see us! (R Burns).  :-)

knight of the road - 2008-11-24 5:29 PM ............. Throughout English history it was the English who welded the Scots, Welsh and Irish into what we are now GREAT BRITAIN, ..............

Er, just another pedantic moment, but the welding (in terms of a common national identity) was not really achieved until the railways were built.  They began the process of bringing the disparate parts of Britain together, not least by bringing us all onto the same time base.  Of course, the canals, and the turnpikes, started the process, but it was the railways that finally achieved it.  Now, I only mention this because so much of that network was engineered by the Scots, and built by the Irish!

Oh, and of course the Celts entered Britain before the Angles (English), Saxons, Frisians and Jutes (Collectively, the Anglo-Saxons) arrived, then a few Vikings and Danes arrived, followed by one or two Normans (really only Vikings who'd lost their way), and since then all manner of other bods.  All of which, to me, raises the question: just who the hell are the English anyway?
