hello dave not too sure what you mean by long term and some apply age limits also depends on the countries you wish to travel to. for a reasonable european, annual multi trip..max 91 days any one trip total 183 days max in any one period of insurance existing med conds coverable and i think cover up to 80 yrs try www.europ-assistance.co.uk they have been ok for us for past 2 yrs and only small annual increases on the premium. for longer stays many recommend comfort insurance. company specialises in m/homing and offers longer home, van and personal ins but obviously costs more. also check moneysupermarket and moneyextra sites for comparison tables also insurance brokers.com site ..their insurance premiums seemed very reasonable. ALWAYS CHECK THE DETAILS AND SMALL PRINT AS WE ALL HAVE DIFFERENT NEEDS AND PRIORITIES. kind regards berti

We are over 70 with pre existing medical conditions, travel/medical insurance is an absolute minefield. I have my van, travel/medical & house insurance all with Comfort (Norwich Union). Being away for up to five months in one trip was a big problem untill I discovered Comforts combined policy for Motorhomers. I've just renewed my annual multi trip travel insurance with a single trip not exceeding 180 days. www.comfort-insurance.co.uk/ There not the cheapest on the market but they fullfill our needs. Safe travelling Don

Not sure I'd agree that Comfort is necessarily more expensive than Europe Assistance plus A.N. other, though. My wife has thyroid deficiency - I had a cartilege job on one knee 18 month ago. Europ Assistance wanted extra premium on both counts. I also found the term was restrictive and thought the cost, when added to the costs of buildings, contents, and vehicle insurance, high. Good product, but expensive. For us, the combined package available with Comfort (to whom we declared the medical bits as above but incurred no additional premium), was more economical and gave greater confidence that all the parts integrated so that the 'van, the house, the contents and our medical cover are all on the same basis and all allow us 90 days absence on the trot. This can be quite readily extended to 180 days or, if I remember, up to one year with some restrictions. But we haven't explored that possibility - yet! As implied above, it depends upon individual circumstances, and what you're paying at present. We had to cancel existing house and contents policies anyway, because the renewal of one would arise when we were to be away - and we couldn't get a quote for the premium more than 30 days in advance - take your bow Liverpool Victoria - and the other couldn't give cover for absence exceeding 30 days - take your bow Camping and Caravanning Club! (The last was funny because the CCC insurance is with Norwich Union - and so is Comfort's.) Final advantage for Comfort was the inclusion of unrestricted (vehicle size/weight) RAC European cover for about £40 instead of about £200 via CCC. That saving of £160 made Comfort quite a lot cheaper for the overall package. My conclusion is it pays to add up the cost of all the individual bits of insurance, look carefully at the exclusions, especially on periods of continuous absence, and then get quotes from Comfort for the whole caboodle. We've now switched our car to them as well, in lieu of CCC, because, even with the included RAC europe cover, they're still cheaper by a short head and with CCC I'd have needed some kind of breakdown cover for the car, which would have tipped the price difference even further in favour of Comfort. Food for thought? Regards Brian
