jeffchef
Ok Here goes-stupid question time!!! Is there such a thing as a connector that you can `screw` onto the gas lead for a calor bottle that will then screw into one of those blue camping gaz `bottles` help Any ideas jeff
Hughmer
I think I saw such a beast at TAM leisure in New Malden just the other day.
Derek Uzzell
jeff, Gaslow market a Campingaz adapter (Part No. 01-1665 in my elderly Gaslow leaflet) that screws on to a standard UK 'pigtail' hose suitable for connecting to the threaded male outlet-valve of Calor 4.5kg BUTANE bottles. I'd guess it will be widely available from caravan dealerships. As far as I'm aware there's no adapter to convert a UK pigtail suitable for Calor PROPANE bottles (with a POL female-threaded outlet-valve) to allow a Campingaz canister to be used instead. One would need to swap the propane-bottle-suitable pigtail-hose for a butane one and then add the Campingaz adapter.
neillking
Just to be clear there are two different solutions here depending on whether you have the pre-2004 on-bottle regulator sytem or the new post-2004 remote regulator system. If on-bottle you buy a new Gaz regulator complete and use that (connected to the van with gas tubing in the same way as the propane reg).If the newer system then you replace the pigtail with one with a 21.8LH end, add the camping gaz adapter to the gaz bottle and screw the new pigtail onto it. This is he procedure for adding all manner of strange bottles in France, Spain, Ireland, etc. All the relevant Gaslow and Truma 'foreign' adapters take the 21.8LH pigtail. All the Gaslow products are listed here along with a downloadable current catalogue, complete or in sections. www.motorcaravanning.co.uk/shopuk/gaslow_all_catalogue.htm
Basil
This is what you need, but as others have said it is a Butane thread so you need correct governor or pigtail as well. We used to have one with us all the time for use abroad with a 907 cylinder but no longer use it since changing to Gaslow refillables. andy mccord
Can anyone help me as to which part i need, I have a 2008 airstream with 7kg butane tanks, when i first got it I couldnt connect to the tank as it is a push on type, so I got an adaptor that the existing pipe from the regulator could screw in to, all is fine. Now with the colder weather coming ive just purchased a 6kg propane, this has an internal thread, were as the end of my pipe wants to screw on to an external thread, what do i now need to enable me to use this propane cylinder TIA Andy
Derek Uzzell
Andy, Based on your description, probably the simplest solution is just to swap the existing gas-hose that runs from your leisure-vehicle's regulator to your 7kg butane gas-bottles for a gas-hose that's suitable for a UK 6kg propane gas-bottle with the UK-standard female left-hand thread connection. You should be able to obtain a 'propane' gas-hose from almost any motorhome or caravan dealership. There's also a UK-butane-gas-hose-to-UK-propane-bottle adapter marketed by Gaslow that would directly replace your existing 'snap-on' butane-bottle adapter. I doubt that motorhome/caravan dealers would normally stock this Gaslow product, so you would probably have to order it. It was Part No. GPTADBUTPRO in CAK's 2008 catalogue (www.caktanks.com), priced at £10.74 It might be worth you getting John Wickersham's book "The Motorcaravan Manual" (Haynes Publishing), as this has lots of useful information on leisure-vehicle gas systems. andy mccord
Hi Derek, Thanks for your reply, it does seem odd that I can get an adaptor that screws in to the nut on the end of my pipe (from Reg) that allows me to connect to a push on butane tank, but theres no adaptor that would also screw in to the end of my nut with a male end on the other side to allow me to screw in to the propane tank?.. If I swopped the pipe would I then in effect be running with 2 regulators derek? TIA Andy
jeffchef
To All Thanks for all help and info Many thanks Jeff Ps-looks like I might bite the bullet and go gor gaslow- pps- it appears that MTM gas systems in Glos are gone/shut down- might be wrong but don`t think so jeff
neillking
The Gaslow part number for the adapter is 01-1674. We sell lots of them from our on-line shop. It screws into a (now) standard 21.8LH ended hose. As well as then providing a Propane 'POL' (bullnose) end it also converts to 'easyfit' with a handwheel and soft bullnose washer. It is also used to convert German screw-on fittings to UK POL but in this case requires the 01-8030 washer as well. SRP is 10.95 so not the cheapest soolution but definitely one of the most convenient if you already have the 21.8LH screw-on hose and many of us sell it discounted of course.http://www.gaslow.co.uk/images/16/1674.jpg 01-1674HTH
andy mccord
Thanks for that Neil, being new to motorhomes I found it very puzzling that I have a nut on the end of my pipe that fits to neither type of bottle, unless I have an adaptor?? Im sure it makes sense somewhere :-(
neillking
The nut does fit 4.5Kg UK butane, Most German cylinders & regulators, and Gaslow Refillables. But more important it also fits all the new style adapters so with one (preferably stainless steel) hose and a pocket full of adpters you can fit to butane, propane, autogas, french, german, spanish, uk, etc. etc.
