Brian Peters
Hi all, This subject has probably been covered before but i want to find out if i am legal as regards my vans weight fully loaded. Im thinking of buying a Reich weight control unit to check out my van weight myself. I own a Burstner t-Star 710, 2005 model. The plate on the side of my van shows 4 different weight measurements. 3500 5000 1750 2240 These weights are all in kgs. Can anyone shed any light on what the weights are regarding. I understand that the Reich unit has a max working load of 1000kgs per wheel measurement in able to find total front and rear axle weights, im hoping that my individual readings will all be within this limit as i dont want to damage the Reich unit. I could go down the weighbridge route but i think i live a long way from my nearest weigh station, and having my own means of weighing my motorhome would be handy to take with me to France to check that im not overdoing the beer and wine etc. many thanks Brian. terry1956
Hi the four weights are loaded van weight, of 3500kg, this is the total weight the van can be, all up weight of 5000kg, this is if you are towing etc, the max weight of the van and trailer etc must not be over 5000kg front axle load weight, must not be over 1750kg rear axle load weight must not be more then 2240 kg to work out what you can carry, you will need to know the unloaded weight of the van with a full tank of fuel and one driver, this you will need to find out by using a weigh bridge. michael

davenewellhome
Fear not Brian, the Reich unit will not be damaged by applying more than 1000KGs to it, it will simply give a "----" reading and will be perfectly good afterwards. With a rear axle limit of 1750 KGs you shouldn't really have anything to worry about, unless of course your 'van is very overweight :D :D D. Oi Dave, 'is rear axle weight is 2240, and his Reich unit won't be adequate!

The Reich unit may still be of some use though, if the rear axle actually weighs less than 2000KGs it will still work. I weighed a Hymer S630 the other day with these units and although his rear axle limit was in excess of 2000KGs it came in at about 1800KGs. D. True, Bro, but if he is over 2,000Kg that is all he'll know, not whether he is over the limit.

ryedaleman
Why dont you visit a weigh bridge at a local quarry, if you live near Leicester there's quarries at Bardon, Shepshed etc or any company that does animal feed will have a bridge. noramally you pay about £4-5 for a ticket. (as a HGV driver we vist them to get a weight )
