RoyH
I hope that I have remembered correctly that you are the TT Expert. My TT1 XL seems to be switching itself on while sitting unused on my desk. Do you or anybody else have this problem? If I don't happen to notice it it runs the battery flat. Thanks for any info. Stuwsmith
This probably won't be much help to you but.....I have been looking at Tomtoms with a view to updating my Navman for which I can no longer get maps. In looking through the reviews for the TT 730 someone else complained of the same problem with his. Not much help but at least your are not alone with this problem. I'd have a look at a Garmin but would probably go for another TomTom as they are soooo easy to use and customise.

I've heard of this before Roy. I don't have time to research it at the moment as I'm just off to work but will have a look later.
Tony Jones
We were on our way ome from Suffolk on Saturday, not having used "Jenny" (our TomTom) since it's a well-trodden route to relatives. Seven miles out from home a familiar voice suddenly came from the glove box - "In 400 yards, turn left.!" Jenny had spontaneously woken up and decided to take us home! Can't imagine anything brushing against the switch could do that - the unit was in its case,. and anyway you have to hold down the buttone forever when you DO want to switch it on! So it sounds like the same scenario as Roy's.
Randonneur
This has only happened to us once and it was caused by one of the elastic straps that hold the TomTom in the case pressing on the 'on' button, mind you it took a few days for it to happen, so now I make sure that that particular piece of elastic is not on. The case, by the way, is not a TomTom case.

Clive
Just bought our first TomTom. 1 XL with Western Europe etc. Have already downloaded the "Air Traffic Controller's" voice into it. How do I enter OSGB grid referances into it?? Ta Clive (On the beginning of the learning curve)
Guest Tracker
Clive - 2008-12-08 5:53 PM Just bought our first TomTom. 1 XL with Western Europe etc. Have already downloaded the "Air Traffic Controller's" voice into it. How do I enter OSGB grid referances into it?? Ta Clive (On the beginning of the learning curve) Clive - just the man - trust you to pop up just at the right time! I'm probably gonna get a TomTom one Europe as it seems to do all that I need but just one question please. If you use the device as a rolling map, ie no route shown but switched on and showing your location map, does it / can it display your speed and if so can you switch from mph to kph please? I find this facility on my Navman invaluable especially when abroad. I know it is a reactive speed rather than a precise instantaneous speed but for cruising and general speed limit observation it is so much easier to see the sat nav in my line of vision than the kph readings on the speedo. Thanks.

RoyH
It's nice to know that I'm not the only one to have the switching on problem. Guess I'll just have to keep my eye on it unless W2G comes up with something. Glad I've given a few of you a bit of fun. Good Christmas to all.
