Re-upholstering

We thought it would be a good idea to change the upholstery in our caravan for next year - a fresh look and brighten it up.

Can any one recommend a company, experienced in caravan upholstery, able to do a quality job.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Several firms advertise in the monthly magazines or you could look in yellow pages or you could ask the van maker who he used or uses.

Caravan or motor home dealers in your area may know a good firm as might coach builders (if any still exist) and marinas or boat sales firms.

If the caravan is not very old or valuable it might be sensible to stick to neutral colours similar to the original unless you don't mind the loss of value that something more striking could bring.

Beauty is in the eye of the buyer not the seller!

Regal have an excellent reputation both for quality of product and customer service.

Hi Tracker - contacted all the people advertising in the magazines but really need to know if anyone out there has used any of them.

Take your point about taste - you should see the colours we have at the moment !!!

You would agree with us when we say we would like a change.

Hi Mike. Having used Regal in the past I too would reccomend them with re. to your upholstery. Not cheap, but they do provide a first class service and end product that includes ( 8 years ago ) pick up and return, with samples and sizes taken from your measurements, although obviously its better to visit their works where you can better explain your needs.

Another option would be to look for local furniture upholsterers near you. No difference between domestic or caravan upholstery, and they will carry out the same work, especially smaller firms and outlets, that firms advertising in motorhome/caravan magazines do.

We had our Elddis caravan re-upholstered and Re-Curtained at Tockfields,

we were very pleased with the result, it was a little expensive but we re-couped the money on resale of the van 6 months later.

We even stayed on their CL site whilst the work was done.

They do motorhomes too, can recommend them. :D :D

Hi, perhaps a little bit too far for you but we had our motorhome re-upholstered by Foam Furnishings of Stoke on Trent. They have a web site www.foamfurnishings.co.uk. They made a brilliant job and were a £1000 (yes one thousand pounds) cheaper than other quotes we got. Our motorhome (Swift Kontiki) is shown in the second photo from the left on the web site. Plenty of fabrics to choose from. It is a small company, and what we did was to take the removable cushions up first and then took the vehicle up by appointment to have the fixed panels and trim done. This took a few hours but you are not far away from the shopping centre at Hanley and there is a large retail park across the road from the workshop. Additional rolls on the cushions to stop my wife rolling out of bed, were installed at the same time. Give them a ring and explain what you want, you will speak to the man who does the work and he is most obliging.

I can't recommend a company experienced in caravan upholstering. However we have used a local furniture upholsterer a couple of times for previous vans, the last one in faux leather. He did a brilliant job covering three Isri chairs, a bench seat and back and the bed "headboard" and surround for around £1200, so it might be worthwhile seeing if there's someone similar in your area.
