wowi
My Opel Movano (= Renault Master) is equipped with the self-shifting gearbox called Quickshift (or Tecshift in Opel-speak). The gearbox performs beautifully but there is an annoying rattling sound when the engine is working under 2000/min. You can't hear it when the engine revs more, possibly because the engine's noise drowns the rattling noise. My ever so helpful dealer couldn't help me, so we arranged a meeting with a specialist from Opel to have a look at my car. He stated that the noise would be perfectly normal for this kind of gearbox. He said there was nothing wrong with the gearbox and there was nothing Opel could (or would) do for me. He even advised me to go to a Renault dealership to get a second verdict about the gearbox. So it's not a bug but a feature?! Is there anyone here who could share his/her experiences with the aforementioned problem? Thanks a lot!

kontiki
I have an Adria on the Renault Master with the quickshift box & haven't noticed anything like you suggest but I've only done about 550 miles. Up to now it seems to work well with no odd sounds from the engine/gearbox.

Usinmyknaus
Hello Wowi and welcome to the forum. I noticed the rattle on my Renault 2.5 dci 120 Quickshift6-equipped van from new and have since done 11284 miles over 18 months. The rattle is the same now as it was at first and I have become so used to it I no longer notice it - your post reminded me of its existence. It mainly occurs on the overun as the vehicle slows, say for a junction or on site. Having grown up in an era when all the commercial vehicles I drove sounded like there were 10 guys hitting metal blocks with sledge hammers under the bonnet, I was staggered by my Renault's comparatively civilised driving environment, so I readily accepted the rattle as a minor irritation, characteristic of the vehicle. Nothing adverse was reported by the dealer who carried out the first annual service, but of course I had not asked them to comment on the rattle. It may be my mechanical ignorance is temporary bliss, but I am not losing any sleep over the rattle. Bob

Den
Hi Wowi Its a normal master sound. I'm on my 3rd master and all the previous vans incl the present one make exactly the same noise. Its the off load noise you can hear. Under load all should be quiet. Mileage covered are 250000, 16000 (This one drowned last July) Present one on 22000. They are my own work vans i might add and by the way have managed 42 mpg on more than one occasion.

blade1889
Wowi Thanks for raising this rattle issue, I was about to get my Renault service guy to look at it. I have a Burstner with a Renault Master engine & noticed it when I first bought it with just over a 1000 miles. I have since been to Croatia,Italy & france covering over 6000 miles in it with no adverse effect. It appears to be just an irritant noise. Appreciate all the comments that have gone before as this in some way makes me feel a little more confortable with it. If I get any further comments from the garage I will post them at a later date. AlanD
I have just bought a Devon motorhome conversion on a Renault Master 100dci van with the Quickshift gearbox. It has done 6500 miles before I bought it. It too rattles when I crawl up my access road in first at just above tickover speed. I was worried about it and took it to a Renault dealer who said that he thought it was probably normal. What I have read here makes me think he's probably right and it's nothing to worry about. I have found the gearbox quite difficult to get used to even with 35 years driving experience, many of them on automatics. You have to remember that, to quote the Renault dealer, it's NOT an automatic gearbox, but a robotized manual!! It seems a mistake to drive it too gently as one tends to do when you buy a vehicle much bigger than you're used too, but I've found that if you just "go for it" it seems to drive much better. It pretty much says this in the owners manual.

It pretty much says this in the owners manual. Mine has done 16000 miles over 31 months and I am still completely happy with it. The off-load/very low speed rattle is still there in the back-ground and I do not notice it unless I consciously listen for it. I find smooth and progressive use of the throttle almost always produces a seamless change up or down. The vehicle happily reverses under total control up a 1 in 8 hill when I do a 3 -point turn in my driveway every time I go out. Running continuously at very close to 3500 Kg, with most jouneys on country roads, 28.9 mpg is better than I expected for a 7 metre-long motorhome. The Renault part of the M/H has performed flawlessly so far. Bob

vicwo
I too have the same on my Adria Izola 697 sl 120bhp Quickshift. Its been no different from day one. I do notice it more after a long run when i am looking for a pitch driving slowly on site. It sounds to me a bit like an exhaust heat shield rattle but after 18000 miles its still the same. Adria have stopped making this model now. There is the odd new one about but the prices have rocketed from 2 years ago. Still love it for the single beds above the massive garage.
