Harris Poll

Recommended Posts

I have just received an e-mail fom a company called Harris Interactive claiming to be conducting research for the Caravan Club and asking me to reply to questions in a poll.

It seems a bit 'phishy' to me. Does anyone know anything about the authenticity of this operation? They say that my address was given to them by the CC.

I have not replied or contacted the CC yet.

I would have thought an organisation like the Caravan Club would not let personal details out without consent and would also have published that they were going to conduct a survey - haven't seen anything in the mag recently.

I would either delete it or, if you want to find out for sure, ask the Caravan Club some questions.

As with all things suspect, if you are not happy then don't do it! You could, of course, try forwarding the email it to the Caravan Club to check if you really want to do the survey!

There are lot of suspect emails around at the moment, my colleague actually got one at work the other day proclaiming it came from our Computing Services (CS), fortunately she checked the address for the link and it was nothing to do with work. What's more worrying though is that when she reported it, the CS wasn't even bothered!!!!! I bet a few staff have fallen for it.

Harris Interactive is a reputable American company specialising in carrying out market research for clients. See:

It's likely that Harris are working legitimately on behalf of the Caravan Club. However, as has already been advised, if there's any doubt then the sensible thing would be to not reply to the survey or, if you feel happy to spend 20 minutes answering questions, to contact the CC first to check that the poll is kosher.

On David Lloyd's point about the CC's 'right' to provide personal information (eg. an e-mail address) to a 3rd-party, you can bet your life that, if you receive an e-mail that's Caravan Club-inspired, somewhere down the line you've either ticked a box to say that's OK, or not ticked a box to say it's not, or there's something in the CC's small-print rules that allows them to do it.

Thanks Derek for your reassurance about Harris. However as I don't want to spend 20 minutes of my precious time answering questions I have deleted it. (It's good of them to warn you that it will take 20 minutes even though it might be counterproductive from their point of view!)

Since when did the Caravan Club listen to Motor Caravan owners anyway?

When they are looking for new business :D

Listening politely is one thing - doing anything constructive is quite another - just ask the real experts in Westminster and Whithall!

Please see copy of e mail from C.C. following my query as to origin of the e mail in question

From Caravan Club

I can confirm this is a legitimate email sent through a company called Harris Interactive on behalf of The Caravan Club. I apologise it is not clearer and does not have any of The Club’s branding which is our error, however you are very much welcome to participate in this survey should you wish.
