This week Aldi have a 12v inverter for under £15 ideal for recharging phones laptops etc also  a 2ltr DeHumidifier for undar £30 ideal for keeping the motorhome damp free during winter months and only runs at 70watts.

I bought an inverter some time ago and use it a lot whilst travelling a handy bit of kit , I have just bought the Dehumidifier so will be interested how effective it is in the motorhome.

Not much good at all at that price I would think. It's probably a Peltier Effect jobbie and pretty useless in very low temperatures. I hope I'm wrong. :-S

Since I started caravanning in 1977 (motorhoming since 2001), I have never felt any need for a dehumidifier in either caravan or motorhome.

I have never used silica-gel or other such products and am constantly mystified why anyone should feel a need for anything of the sort.

Given the amount of fixed ventilation in our vehicles, what is the point?

The point as I see it is to remove damp from the motorhome/van.

This I do after its been inhabited in the colder months to make sure the inevitable moisture we give off is removed and not left in the upholstery in particular. It works for us, we put in on for 24 hours after we return. Prior to getting one we did once get minor mildew spots on the curtain linings of one van, hence its purchase.

Fair enough, if you did have a damp problem, although I wonder why you were affected.

We have a garden shed (with curtains) and this has stood quite happily since 1984 without any form of heating or dehumidification, or mildew.

I've been told that the vast majority of damp problems in motorhomes come from water ingress (rain water leaking in from the outside) rather than damp created from condensation on the inside. If true, a dehumidfier is unlikely to help (!)
