nightrider
The producers of Coronation Street, filmed a wedding scene at the 14th century church of St Mary in Nether Alderley Cheshire, which was shown on monday evening paying the church a fee of £4.600. The producers wanted a cross moving from the alter so that it would not offend SOME viewers, you would expect to see the Koran in a film of a Mosque, a menorah in a film of a synagogue and similarly a cross when filming a Christian church. So I would like to pose the question, whose country is this? and when were we taken over?

Brian Kirby
I think it says far more about Coronation Street, and its producers, than it does about Britain!

Hymer C 9.
To mind a error (which is what the decision is being described as) is if you hit a wrong note on the keyboard, you add up a column of figures wrong, not a thought about decision to remove a cross in church, why don't these producers live in the real world and realise that yes you do have a cross in church, and people do not have to be molly coddled at every twist and turn, I have to agree with Brian's comments its to do with the producers of the show more than any thing else. nightrider
The TV producers have now realised that they have made a big boo boo and have issued a grovelling apology, the decision was probably made by one politically correct individual, no doubt the postbag of the Manchester Evening News will be full of irate readers letters tomorrow, will let you know. CliveH
Not this Clive! can not stand the soaps - I call this one Constipation Street. But yes from what I understand the removal of a Cross is the same as those numptys who wish everyone a Merry Winter Festival and such. I personally am VERY surprised the Church allowed the cross to be taken down! - What is more important to the Church elders? - Their religion of £4k? Saw better Telly on the Elephant program tonight - anyone else see it? How they dealt with death was both wonderful and stunning. Now SWMBO wants a baby elephant. The vicar in this story does not come out smelling of roses does he? permitting the cross to be hidden under a cloth and picking up four grand plus, wonder what his excuse will be? Randonneur
From The Queen's Royal Lancers Website: Goodbye to my England, So long my old friend Your days are numbered, being brought to an end To be Scottish, Irish or Welsh that's fine But don't say you're English, that's way out of line. The French and the Germans may call themselves such So may Norwegians, the Swedes and the Dutch You can say you are Russian or maybe a Dane But don't say you're English ever again. At Broadcasting House the word is taboo In Brussels it's scrapped, in Parliament too Even schools are affected, staff do as they're told They must not teach children about England of old. Writers like Shakespeare, Milton and Shaw The pupils don't learn about them anymore How about Agincourt, Hastings , Arnhem or Mons ? When England lost hosts of her very brave sons. We are not Europeans, how can we be? Europe is miles away over the sea We're the English from England, let's all be proud Stand up and be counted - Shout it out loud ! Let's tell our Government and Brussels too We're proud of our heritage and the Red, White and Blue Fly the flag of Saint George or the Union Jack Let the world know - WE WANT OUR ENGLAND BACK !!!! Patricia
What an inspiring poem Ranonneur - brilliant. When my husband was alive we used to go annually to the classical music shows (and joined in the flag waving enthusiastically) and always watched the last night of the Proms - all very patriotic in a happy, peaceful, although very noisy, way and not at all nationalistic, which is a very different and dangerous sentiment altogether. malc d
Have you seen the 'hoax' sculpture commissioned by the Czech govt. It was supposed to represent the countries of the EU. Apparently, for Britain, they just left a space. :-|
donna miller
Well that sums up exactly what the rest of Europe view Britain as anyway. A waste of space.
