Thanks for the link, I have had a look and agree with your comments, but it is a useful site and who knows, it may grow into something bigger and better.

Just to re-iterate (for the benefit of any new Forum members), the following website give a large collection of Aires with their sat-nav co-ordinates:

http://home.arcor.de/telbus/womo-sp/ReadMe-1st_engl.html

Hi,

You should be able to open these types of file using the "Wordpad" program that comes with most versions of windows. (Start > Programs > Accessories).

It is a standard "ASCII" type format. To open it you may need to select "All Files" from the "File > Open" menu.

Good Luck

I have just had a look at them and it appears they should be easily convertable to "Points Of Interests" for most SatNav systems.

I presume this would be a useful addition to any Motorhome Sat Nav system that is being used abroad etc.

This is my method of opening these files ..................

Save them to the desktop and then 'click' on them. This then opens a box, which offers a) to let Windows search for a suitable program to open the file and b) to let you choose from a list.

Select the 'choose from a list' and use Internet Explorer as the program to open the file.

You can then save the opened file as html, or import it into Word, or any other suitable program.

Why the operators of the womo website have used this strange arrangement instead of just displaying them as text files I know not.

PS 'womo' seems to be an abbreviation of 'Wohnmobile', German for Motorhome.

The most comprehensive, accurate and informative 'aires' website (at least where French aires de services are concerned) continues to be

http://campingcar-infos.com/index1.htm

I looked briefly at www.airecampingcar.com and, as Patricia says, the number of aires on which information is provided is quite limited. Of the few entries I studied not all were correct.
