Guest Shaun Stirland
The fridge we have in our current motorhome has a small freezer compartment, I am looking for a small portable freezer which can be kept under the bed in the van and run using 12v / 240v, maybe gas but not necessarily, is such a thing available, will it drain the 12v battery very quickly (we stay on sites without hook up or moving for an average of two days), can it be wired to switch over from 12v to 240v automatically, what sort of costs are involved. Hopefully someone has advice. Many thanks, Shaun
Guest Clive
Have a look at www.roadpro.co.uk/productsItem.asp It will take 3 amps when running so will flatten a normal Leisure battery in 24 hours. Otherwise for over £400 it fits under your bed! Still sure you want one? Good luck Clive

Guest MelE
Clive's suggestion is a Waeco product and their catalogue contains a number of alternatives. Search the web under Waeco. But, as ever on matters electrical, Clive is right: you cannot afford to leave even a small one running for long unless you have hook-up or the engine is running (or you blitz everyone nearby with a generator!). We've just moved from a motorhome with a separate 20L freezer compartment to a fridge freezer with a smaller integral freezer compartment and we simply store less frozen food. Integral freezer compartments aren't as good as separate units at keeping it cold anyway. And surely one of the joys of travel is eating local fresh products?
