howie
Rather watch Billy Connolly's 'Journey to the Edge of the World'. (ITV 9 pm). Bit like Yorkshire, but nicer scenery.
malc d
howie - 2009-03-05 11:36 AM Rather watch Billy Connolly's 'Journey to the Edge of the World'. (ITV 9 pm). Bit like Yorkshire, but nicer scenery. Won't be watching Connolly this time. Before we did a tour of New Zealand, he did a tour and I thought I would see a lot of New Zealand. But all we saw was a lot of Connolly. Very disappointed. :-(

howie
It,s not his jokes Malc, it,s his attitude to life and the way he gently mocks our attitudes and priorities. A good example was the graveyard where most of the crew and passengers off the Titanic were buried. The recent film saw a huge increase in the numbers of tourists visiting this graveyard and the main attraction was the headstone of Jack Dawson (played by Leonard somebody or other) . Nice little earner, but sadly the body of Jack Dawson was never recovered and the man buried there was actually a John Dawson. No problem for the local businessmen who all chipped in for a new headstone with only the initial 'J' Dawson on it which keeps the tills busy and the tourists happy. Great stuff. ROON
Hey you lot!!!! I'm here drooling over Sean Bean and along you come drooling over an old, swearing Scotsman( ;-) You can't beat beautiful Yorkshire scenery whatever the time of year, and you can't beat the fantasy of gorgeous Sean whispering sweet nothings in your ear ...... is there any woman out there gonna back me up on this? Must say though, that old Billy seems to have mellowed in old age and he is quite attractive now. :$

I just sit there thinking: ( Although it does annoy my better half) Should it be Seen Been.....? or Shorn Born.....? How do they come up with Shorn Been ? But then, I can't even cope with Menzies Campbell being pronounced 'Ming'. (I do realise that I shouldn't care). ;-) ;-)

I think that's probably it Howie. He used to tell jokes. Just seems a bit more crude these days, and the 'attitudes and priorities' that you refer to are ones that I find funny (or peculiar) without anyone telling me about them. ;-)
Mel B
Sorry Janine, I don't like Sean Bean (the name annoys me too!) ... but then again that means you can have him all to yourself! I think Billy Connolly is brilliant, watched him many times over the years, thought he was fabulous is the film "Mrs Brown" (about Queen Victoria) but absolutely sucked in the film "The Man who Sued God", although to be fair the script was very weak. I love his observations on life, he says what we are all thinking a lot of the time but wouldn't dare to say as we'd never get away with it, but he does, no-one takes offence which is great. On his stage shows, he does swear an awful lot, but that's how his show is, like it or lump it, although I don't think he's quite as bad as he was! He can talk about the most mundane or even horrific things and have you in stitches! The man is a genius. Howie .. there's nothing wrong with Yorkshire scenery! You just need to know where to go to see the best of it. :-D

Been trying to think of that place where they buried the survivors from the Titanic. You know your way around a computor Mel and perhaps you could look it up and put me out of my misery. x ........................................ Owe you a apology Joy. ROON
Janine, I can't get that link up onthis Vista thing. Will try again. Howie, Don't you dare apologise for 'going off thread'. As Donna said on another thread, the Chatterbox is like old friends sitting round having a drink together (or words to that effect). I would never get miffed over someone putting their own opinion on a thread. It would be pretty boring if conversation didn't flit about wouldn't it. I found all the posts on Billy quite interesting and am made up that I have Sean all to myself tonight, but I do think you are all going to miss a really good programme - nothing to do with my man- as it has had numerous good write-ups. \just off to put my sexy undies on. I'm here Shorn. :$ ;-) 8-)

nightrider
I like Billy Connolly but I was a little put off when his wife who is some kind of physcologist made Billy confront his demons and write a book about his life mentioning the fact that Billy's late father sexually abused him.
