The wine or water thread has gone off to this tagent i know but i was wondering if the panel think it's worth me leaving essential stuff at home when i take our annual pilgrimage to France. Then i can load up with booze to sell back in Blighty to the binge drinkers and make enough profit to pay for the trip? I haven't bothered recently what with the exchange rate and wine offers at tesco. And she does get a bit narked when she can't use the small room on the way home because it's chock full of wine. It might be worth towing a transit behind the M.H. this year. :D

See now thats where an outfit like mine comes in handy not only for space but for loads of extra payload space :-D . I have nearly a ton of spare payload when fully laden for us, and although the newer units are heavier they still give a decent payload.

and how do i know this - well a friends outfit very similar to mine was weighed in france last year when on her way home they travel like us 2 adults and a dog, same breed of trailer but use a ford ranger pickup and they had their 6 month supply of wine on board as well.

Haven’t done a booze cruise for some time and have not been able to holiday on the other side of the channel for several years now so am interested in the prices of wine in France.

Is it still far cheaper than in the UK? Has the drop of the £ to Euro made bringing it back less financially worthwhile?

Would really like to know peoples experience on this as we live a stones throw from Poole and can easily get a day trip to Cherbourg.

Thanks in anticipation

I'm frequently tangential and often erratic! :D

Trying to behave myself and keep to this thread......I don't have the spare payload (Chatterdog has the right idea, why didn't I think of that?) but my perception last autumn, at better exchange rates than now, was that wine that caught my interest seemed slightly more expensive in France (Vendee) than comparative wines here. No problem for a holiday's worth of bottles but not worth stocking up and carrying back. Came back on Sunday so Cite Europe closed.

I'll watch more up to date replies to Clive's question with interest and hope fervently that the exchange rate improves before this summer.

Otherwise I'll be exporting wine TO France - how nuts is that?

Bob :-D
