trickydicky
hi, does anyone know of anywhere on the coastline in the northwest where we can safely wild camp for 1 or 2 nights,or alternatively a nice campsite within walking distance of the sea.we are relatively new to the area and don't really know our way around. or,if not by the sea, then a nice town, maybe with a river close by. Big Momma
look at the 2 Club websites (www.caravanclub.co.uk and www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk) they give sites close to sea and Lochs in Scotland. You don't have to be members to use the website or the sites. Using Internet search engines can also prove fruitful. Great site on Skye ! If you want to wild camp then you can do so on the Outer Hebrides.

Tony Jones
Some years ago it used to be possible in the parking area at Glasson Dock just south of Lancaster. Don't know the situation now though, but Google Earth still shows the parking area, and a pic of a motorhome, at 53deg 59' 51.56"N, 2deg 50' 47.66"W. urbanracer
The large gravel car park at Glasson dock is owned by british water ways and has a height barrier. The car park at nearby conder green just past the Stork inn also has a barrier. But if you go to the top of the hill at Glasson and find a spot to park there are no restictions. robertandjean
Hi, One place we have stayed in the past, when we had people we used to visit in the area, was on the front at Clevelys, north of Blackpool. Its a few years ago but there were always a few vans there. It is a bit of road noise however. Jean and Robert

Good views over the estuary from here, but not really level for overnighting, and it's on the road to nearby industrial units. Much better at the car park. The nice man on the gate will open the barrier for you, and he told me he locks the gate early evening, and if you're still there he's not fussed. ROON
Still not sure where you are going in North West, but if near Southport - if you drive along the coast road, so the sea is on your left, towards Preston, you will come across a car park on the left looking out over the sea (on your right is the Wildfowl area) and you could park overnight there. You won't really see the sea as it is miles away but you can walk towards it if you have a dog - or just want a walk! If by north west you are near Billinge, there is a car park on a hill where you could park if you head for The Prince William pub - no sea but handy to stopover on your way somewhere. Nice sea in North West is a bit difficult but you could head towards Ellesmere Port and there is a walk when the tide is out to a small island where if you are lucky you can see seals and dolphins. But if you are so far then you might be better going to Anglesey or is that too far south. If you are in Southport, you could camp in Southport Camp site and this is within walking distance of the town and sea front and theatre, if you are in the Caravan Club.
