fiat ducato main break cylinder

There is really no big panic to get a replacement brake cylinder if you check that the vacuum diaphragm diameter is approx. the same . Then check the hydraulic cylinder piston dia. \after that see if the fixing bolts are the same . However it is simple enough to make an adaptor plate if necessary. Then check that the clearance at the end of the push rod into the cylinder allows for about 15 thou. when fully fitted. There is usually adjustment to achieve this and using a gauge set will enable a sure job. Dont forget that Iveco parts also fit and there are firms that specialise in replacement cyls.

Your mechanic really should not have a problem sourcing. However not al brake suppliers have the Ducato master cylinders as far as I can tell - try www.brakeparts.co.uk they seem to have all variants.

You could also have the cylinder rebuilt with new seals if it is not scored/worn.

Hello Dave,

Although the original Fiat master cylinder (9946385) is no longer available, there are service kits available. Part number 9941367 costs around £30 and replaces the seals inside the cylinder and another kit 9938830 (about £16) comes with an o'ring for the front of the servo where it meets the cylinder and the seals on the pedal side of the servo.

Nick
