LinofDe
Does anyone have a solution to the problem of damp forming under our cushions when we sleep on them at night in the cold weather? I am sure I have read somewhere about a membrane you can put down but I've no idea what it is or if it really works. At the momemt we are standing them up in the morning until they are dry, but its a real nuisance! Thanks Linofde
Brian Kirby
I assume your seat bases are solid topped and unheated? There is a product that is like synthetic horsehair wadding, which allows air to circulate beneath the cushions to reduce condensation. However, I'm afraid I can't remember its name. One alternative would be to arrange for heater ducts to discharge into the seat bases, so they they are slightly warmed. However, this is only feasible with ducted warm air heating. In extreme cold, however, this is really the only sure remedy.Another alternative, if the seat bases are solid topped, is to get a 50mm or similar sized hole saw and carefully drill a series of holes in the locker lids, so that the cushion can ventilate into the locker. The ideal, would be a combination of some heat and the increased ventilation.
Derek Uzzell
LinofDe I think the only anti-condensation mattress-underlay currently available in the UK is the product marketed by The Natural Mat Company. Details are on: http://www.airflowsprings.com/acatalog/index.html There has been a fair amount of previous forum discussion about this problem, together with suggestions on ways to combat it. See the links I provided on: http://www.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=14022&posts=
LinofDe
Thanks for all the links-I think we will try the cheaper options first! Linda
Derek Uzzell
Linda There is another 'underlay' product branded "AKWAMAT". It's a combination of coconut fibres and latex and seems to be readily available abroad (It's advertised in my French leisure-vehicle catalogues.) If you GOOGLE on the AKWAMAT name you'll retrieve some stuff on it. If you are interested, you might try http://www.edbed.com as this is a UK company and apparently employs AKWAMAT in their bespoke marine mattresses. As these underlays are niche products I guess they will inevitably not be cheap to purchase retail.
bob b
Hi Linda, I notice there's a 'warm air unit' for sale in the Buy & Sell section of the Forum. Suitable for lockers, 12 volt or gas, on/off switch, thermostat & trunking included. £50.00. Might be worth looking at.
George Collings
An Interchange reader advised using a woolen blanket under the cushions. I presume it added an extra layer of insulation and improved ventilation.
