murvi piccolo

As Murvi motorhomes are normally 'bespoke', buyers of brand-new Murvis will tend to hang on to them. The Piccolo is also a recent model, so that's two reasons why it's unlikely there are any on the second-hand market.

An alternative might come from Horizons Unlimited's "Cavarno" or "Innovation" ranges. See

Horizons Unlimited do not build on the current Fiat Ducato base-vehicle which is used for Murvi's Piccolo, removing any worries a buyer might have regarding the Ducato's on-going and (time-wise) open-ended mechanical problems.

I can vouch for the Cavarno. We've had ours just over a year and I estimate we've spent over 50 nights in it, including three continental trips, and it's brilliant

But again you rarely see a secondhand one - we certainly won't be parting with ours anytime soon, and I suspect that's the case with most other owners. Plus, they only build 20-something of them a year, so there aren't many about anyway!

Hi guys

Many thanks for the advice and yes I think due to concerns over the Fiat fiasco we might avoid this type of van. We have heard good things about the Horizons campers but again we haven't seen any second hand. We might go down the bespoke route if anyone has any recommendations particularly within Scotland that would be brill. All the best and thanks again for the advice Lawrence & Wendy

The only Scottish motorhome builder that immediately springs to mind is East Neuk Campervans. See

This company has earned praise in leisure magazines and there was a test-report on their "Fifer Touring" model in MMM February 2008 (page 168). Only potential downside is that (I believe) they only build on the Ducato.

Otherwise you might consider Young Conversions, in Bletchley, who will build anything that it's actually possible to build on pretty much any panel-van base you'd care to specify. See
