steph
Has anybody else come across discrimination (is that how you spell it?) against white vans on camp sites? We were told at a campsite that they no longer allowed on the site because ''they made the place look like a travellers site''. We were ok as we had been before and prebooked last season. We have a white van for several reasons,1 being I like my home comforts in my tent, lots of luggage and another being the dogs, we have a 5stone greyhound to transport and a jack russell, try gettin them on the back seat of a car. We just wondered if this was a universal rule.
CliveH
It varies a fair bit I think. Some sites allow vans but only if they have no writing on the side. Others exactly the opposite!. And some - due to experience I was told by one of the wardens - will not allow vans at all. It is a shame because in my youth as a student I toured all over with my old Escort van. But now it seems vans are synonymous with unruly children and dogs never on leads and so we have a blanket ban at many sites.
W3526602
Hi, Don't they realise that if you have a baby, you need a Transit size van just to visit mum. There is the child seat, carry cot, pram, pottie, nappies, bottle and steriliser, chang of clothes, etc, etc. A family car is no longer big enough. :-D
steph
Don't get me started on dogs running loose on sites. They are usually people with the 'posh cars' that think they have a right to let their dogs roam free.

With all due respect Steph, you miss the point about dogs running loose on sites - it has nothing to do with 'posh cars' and has everything to do with the owners being irresponsible dog owners - a blight to responsible dog owners and non dog owners alike. It has nothing to do with money just their attitude of total disregard to others - in other words 'irresponsible and selfish'.
handyman
we travelled round Europe of 6 months in a white van basically kitted out in the back (on a 1 year honeymoon). During the 6 months on mainland Europe we had no problems getting into any campsite. We returned to uk and the first site we went to refused us to stay *-) It happend once more, so we went straight back home, brought our fights forward, and spend our money in Australia instead. :-D

steph
My point was that you don't have to own a white van to be an irresponsible dog or child owner. There are a lot out there who think that they are above the campsite rules. This is our 5th camping season and while we have met some lovely people you most certainly also meet some bad ones. ROON
Steph I think that's awful.... we go on about discrimination against motor homes when we go to park up and there are height barriers and now this follow on for campers who choose to drive white vans. Why can['t discretion be used when booking in and any obvious trouble makers whether in motorhomes, caravans, tents with white vans etc be turned away rather than this pre-formed decision that certain factors are going to cause problems. I am fast becoming disillusioned. :'(
