LordThornber
I spotted this the other day and mentioned it to my clued up techie mate, he agrees it's a pretty good deal. With the mobile broadband offer lower down in the ad, it really is a good deal. I've no connection, (no pun intended), with 3, just thought I'd point it out. http://threestore.three.co.uk/dealsummary.aspx?offercode=18UT20D090&hompepage=1 Martyn

LordThornber
handyman - 2009-04-19 11:13 AM has 3 still got terrible coverage and even worse service? Have they improved? Funny you should mention that. I didn't know anything about 3 to be honest as I've been with Orange for 12 years but my clued up mate, upon telling him about the deal said 3 were hugely better than they were in the past. He did say that 3 were pretty poor in the early days. Apparently all, (or most), of the providers these days share their masts so coverage must be better. Bazza454
I am 12 months into an 18 month contract with a 3 dongle at the original price of £10 per month.Coverage is similar to any mobile phone provider, excellent in some areas, poor or non existent in others. In weak signal areas I attach a 3 metre USB extension cable to the laptop and then the dongle, this enables the dongle to be moved around and more often than not improves the reception.I've only had cause to contact them once in the 12 months over a small problem and their service was excellent. LordThornber
Bazza454 - 2009-04-19 3:50 PM I've only had cause to contact them once in the 12 months over a small problem and their service was excellent. This is good to hear. I wish my 18 month contract was nearer to it's end as I'd jump at the deal on offer. That said, doubtless someone else will match it soon enough. To my mind, it's a travellers, (us), dream. You've got unlimited internet from the phone which looks reasonably large enough to be able to see, plus the dongle deal if you want it. Mel B
Hi guys I'm currently parked just outside Mablethorpe right near the beach and have got a very good signal with my 3 mobile broadband dongle with my laptop! Its working brilliantly!!! I've had a quick look at the deal Martin and my only concerns are: 1) Make sure what broadband deal you are getting if you go for the dongle in addition to the phone, some are as low as 1gb a month and that won't last long if you like to do a fair bit of surfing, forum nattering etc. 2) As for how good 3 is - it can be absolutely abysmal at time! At home I often have a problem with it being extremely slow - to be honest its great for using in the camper when away but at home, a standard broadband (landline) connection would be better. However, I've got about another 5 months of my 18 month contract left so when the time comes to renew I shall seriously be thinking about going for another mobile broadband provider if they can prove to me that their connection is better. 3) We have had problems and had to contact 3 and must agree to some extent that the service isn't great, whilst the operators are friendly enough it is sometimes very difficult to get across what's the problem when you're speaking to someone in India or wherever they are. There have also been a lot of connection problems or lack of service as they've been putting up lots of new transmitters which has caused quite a lot of problems - one week I was without broadband for 4 days, another 2 days - not good if it's the only way you can get connected. Just make sure you check out exactly what you're getting and are going to be happy with it.
LordThornber
Hi Mel, hope you're enjoying Mablethorpe whilst I'm stuck in work, grrr. I can't buy it either as my Orange contract has another 5 or 6 months to go, never mind. As for the points you make, I was really pointing the deal out for us travellers rather than use at home. Mobile broadband is going to have be a lot quicker for it to replace our landline. I believe Mr Darlings Budget is going to contain some info on faster Broadband. Speeds aside, £20 a month is good value IMHO for the whole package. Martyn
