david lloyd
Hi I'm not sure if the people running the forum will put together a post on driving regulations abroad but regular contributors may add their own knowledge. A better way I found was to purchase a copy of the latest edition of the 'Caravan Europe - Volume 1' book published by the Caravan Club and available to non members too. Volume 1 covers France, Portugal and Spain and Volume 2 most of the rest of europe. Not only does it list many campsites in these countries but it also has a comprehensive introductory chapter on the regulations for driving in these countries. For further information see: http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/Planning+your+trip/Overseas+trips/Overseas+Sites/Caravan+Europe/Caravan+Europe.htm David

Rayjsj
I must admit after reading in May's MMM, about the folks touring Portugal towing a 450kg Trailer, and receiving a 600 euro instant fine because the trailer never had it's own Registation number ??? How about all the Foreign HGV's that tow large trailers with registration plates NOT the same as the towing vehicle.... an Offence in the UK ! we should treat them in the same manner, escort them to the ATM or impound the trailer. Either traffic legislation is: the laws that apply in your own country of origin ,apply to you when abroad. OR : You completely comply to ALL traffic laws when abroad. They can't have it both ways ie. You comply to ours but we can ignore yours. Being escorted to an ATM to pay a disputed fine. sounds a bit like demanding money with menaces or armed mugging to me.(not sure how I would react to that....I'd probably end up getting shot !) pity i quite fancied going to Portugal as well. ps In the UK there is no way to register a Trailer or Caravan seperately from it's towing vehicle. and good job too ! :D :D
