Hi everyone. Me and my other half are taking a 6 week break starting from the middle of August. We are celebrating his 65th although he isn't retiring then. We are looking for any tips and advice on routes, campsites etc. We usually travel to France and Germany a couple of times a year but want to get further afield Any help at all would be gratefully accepted. Looking forward to hearing from you.

We visited September/October 2007 and found lots of small family owned campsites which we thought good value, We enjoyed Croatia and would certainy reccomend a visit - we wiil go again. Free/wild camping is forbiden. Do visit the Lakes, the islands and don't miss Trogir- a real jem from which you can visit Split by waterbus, much better than driving into.

Definitely go for it we did a 9 wk tour there, absolutely wonderfull.

Visit the island of Cres, fantastic. Now the ferry was (last year) about in sterling £22 each way but this is the best bit if you stay for 7 nights you get 1 free AND they will refund your ferry price, now stay 14 nights you get 2 free nights AND AGAIN refund the ferry to get off the island, could not believe it. Lovely cycle/walking paths into the village.

We have a write up in the wings for MMM but as yet commitments etc, etc, etc have not had the time to submit.

:-D :-D :-D

We bought a large scale map of Croatia out there, very reasonable, just as an aside a MUST is DUBROVNIK. You are able to walk around the city on the WALL tourist info. says 2-3 hours we took all day, stop take pics, stop chat, stop coffee, and just enjoy the fantastic view and scenery.

One of our stops was at a private Auto Camp called "CISTE" right on the coast and every Friday night all new arrivals are invited to a free fish supper, barbeed/grilled on an enormous charcoal fire and on Saturday mornings all new arrivals are invited to coffee, very friendly people.

WE WILL RETURN.

But do check your insurance very carefully before you go.  Croatia is not in the EC, and not all companies cover it automatically.  For some companies you may need to apply for a Green Card.  Also be aware that to get to Dubrovnik you have to either: a) take a ferry from Ploce to Trpanj, the availability of which for a motorhome cannot be guaranteed on any given day, or b) take a 15 Km stretch of road past Neum, which is in Bosnia.  Bosnia is only covered by a few UK insurers, invariably on a Green Card, at additional cost, and with restrictions on time.  Failure to do this may leave you without any insurance for those 15Km.  Not maybe the greatest risk in the world, but solvable in advance if you start now.  Hope this helps.
