Can anyone suggest where to obtain brush-type material for fitting full width rear mud flaps. I have searched the internet without finding a supplier

Hi Ken, There's a commercial vehicle components distributor in Walsall who stock "Sprayflap" goods. I'm not sure if they do full width though. Tel: 01922 627373. www.albert-jagger.co.uk Hope this helps. John

Hello Ken, Some of the DIY stores sell heavy rubber door mats with a brush type finish. These can be strengthened with metal strips for the bolt holes. We used these on some of the fleet vans. Like Ken I am not sure whether you can get full width ready made flaps and I have searched the internet for them several times without success. It seems to come down to buying the material and making the flaps and fittings yourself. Dave Newell may have more information on this try e-mailing him at dave@davenewell.co.uk. I seem to remember that John Wickersham had some problems sourcing these. Regards, Mike Chapman

Any Commercial vehicle parts stockist carries these items. There are a number of different makes. There is however a problem with spray suppression flaps as they trap mud in side lanes and if you go in snow and ice, and it then freezes your flaps will become so heavy they break away from their fittings. Many hauliers / commercial vehicle breakers may even give you old flaps for nothing that you can cut to size just to get them out of the way. ( We used to replace them on milk haulage every couple of years as they became damaged easily , and we wished we could have had an exemption like Tipper Operators ) David

Thanks for all replies. I have been in Haulage for 35 years and fully understand the comments regarding the build up of mud etc. on flaps. However, I am looking for the type of spray flaps which comprise of brush bristles hanging from the chassis to the road, as used on American RVs and coaches. Any further help anyone?

Hi Ken Have a word with Paul Rees who is secretary of ARVE club (American RV Enthusiasts) I think he also has a business selling parts etc for RV's and is usually at the shows where I have seen the skirts you mean - if Paul is not the chap with the stand at the shows he will know who it is and how to contact him - Paul Rees 08700 115111. Ken They are called "Dirt Skirts" and virtually any RV parts stockist will have them. See ads in MMM. Paul Rees runs ABP Leisure and he will stock them. They come in two halfs and in either 16" or 22" drop. Regards Neal
