I have just rang kwik fit to ask if they do motor homes [ re gassing ] the man said yes he would but on his computer no details of how much gas to put in. Does anyone know the answer 2.7 Mercedes S Class Hymer on a 416 chassis.

Just give them the MB chassis detail not the campers? you can usually find a mobile chap that will come to you and do it.......

Halfords do the gas and info' kit to do it yourself. It should tell you either in the manual or on the vehicle somewhere under the bonnet how much you need.

you need a test to see why you are loosing gas in the first place? as it is a sealed system? and a loss of pressure MAY indicate a problem with seals.

they pump in oil as well as gas........essential for lubricating the seals. another reason for running A/C regularly as if they fail then its an expensive job.

Not sure about losing gas.....as I understand it, the gas breaks down over the years, even if the system is totally sealed, and thus loses it's efficiency through chemical degradation.

Any regassing process should, I believe pump out both the gas and then the oil from the system, and then pump back in new gas and new oil....as the oil also breaks down over time and loses its lubrication ability.

The actual process at most garages is very easy, so long as they can get their two tubes onto the two drain/refill nipples located somewhere in the circuit under your bonnet. The machine they use very accurately measures what it's pumping out, and there should be a plate attached to your engine compartment somewhere which says exactly how much new gas/oil mix they pump back in.If the plate is not readable, contact any main dealer of your base vehicle for the amount needed.

Just got the air-con on our car over here in Spain re-gassed last week. It's 4 years old, and had not been re-gassed previously.

The difference really is astonishingly good!!

Cost, at a local garage, was 32 euros.

With temps now at 28 degrees and above, it's money very very well spent!
