Fred Duck Posted July 24, 2009 Share Posted July 24, 2009 We need an overnight halt next Thursday night somewhere near to the M1/A42 junction or, maybe, just onto the M42 - that sort of area. One option seems to be the Donington Park Services but we've never stayed on a Services before and don't know if they're a good idea or not. I just wonder who's wandering around at 3-00am!! Wherever we stay, we won't arrive until, maybe, 8-00pm and, as well as our 'van, we'll have a trailer on the back carrying one of our vintage cars so we will 'stand out' rather. We'll need to be back on the road by 7-00am Friday morning so really just need to stop somewhere handy. Any suggestions? FD Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Guest Tracker Posted July 24, 2009 Share Posted July 24, 2009 We used to use Motorway service areas as a convenient overnight stop but in recent years they have become quite expensive and potentially and anecdotally a lot more dangerous with, or so it seems, much more crime than there used to be - so we don't use 'em any more - in fact we don't even leave the van unattended on a Motorway service area any where in Europe or the UK - even in daylight! starvin marvin Posted July 24, 2009 Share Posted July 24, 2009 There are not very many sites in that part of Leicestershire. if you're going north you could try Elvaston Castle, turn left at JCN 25 on M1 onto A52 and the turning is a few miles down the road on the left hand side. ChasB Posted July 25, 2009 Share Posted July 25, 2009 There is a CC cl at Ingles Hill Farm, Burton Road, Ashby De La Zouch. It’s about 5 minutes from junction 13 of the M42. There is also a C& CC cs at The Old Tonge Station just a few minutes from the Donington Park race track. Not free overnight halts but safe. Fred Duck Posted July 26, 2009 Author Share Posted July 26, 2009 Thanks for the suggestions. Elvaston Castle is CC but is in a Country Park and they lock the gates at 8-00pm. That's about the time we'll probably arrive and there's no late arrivals as you can't get in. Looks like you can't get out before 9-00am as well and we want to be at Prescott by then on the Friday morning. I'm sure we'd have been OK at the Donington Services but we've found a CL just off Junction 11 of the A42 that seems ideal and the owners have no objection to a late arrival and early departure so that's what we've booked.
