little-jack
Hi! Has anyone any experience of this sat system, and any comments on ease (or otherwise) of use. Any suggestions of an alternative system also welcome! Also any recommendations about specialist installers in my area (East Sussex). The agent I contacted wanted over £700 to supply and instal one, which seems a lot for a manually operated system. Thanks little jack
JohnP
Did this price include a receiver or was it just the dish system? I have had this system on three vans and it is both easy to install and use. I have just changed my van and removed all components except the mounting plate which was glues on with Sikaflex. A new mounting plate/transfer kit was obtained From maxview so it saved a lot of money this time. Why not buy one off the internet and install it yourself. You can download the fitting instructions from the maxview site and see what is involved regarding fitting.
limerick
Having one installed next Tuesday. There are two types you can get one is a single lnb, or a twin lnb which can be used for sky + as you need two cables for it to work. Prices on the net for a single is £369.95 and twin lnb £469.95 .Dont know if I can name the web site or not ,so google it you will find plenty of sites. The dealer who is installing my dish is charging 80 euro to install it The prices above are for a dish only regards limerick
little-jack
The price did not include the receiver, just the dish and instal. The price was £450 for the dish and est. £250 fitting. I thought of fitting it myself, but am a bit concerned about cutting a hole in the roof.
Syd
The knuckle joint at the bottom of the LNB arm seizes up meaning the LNB arm will not drop down sufficeintly to allow correct alignment thus making set up difficul, make sure you lubricate it regularly. Also treat the arm joint with great respect as it is cast alloy and very weak. replacement joint is about £28. Watch the weight, check your van roof will be strong enough to carry it
Tomo3090
It's a good system. A bit twiddley at first to get the hang off, but once you do you can tune it in and be set up in a minute or so. Don't forget you need to buy a satellite receiver box, a normal terrestral freeview box won't do. A Sky freeview, freesat is the one you need. Remember to go outside your van go get an accurate reading with the compass to find South when you are setting up. The electrical wiring or anything magnetic near you will mean you could spend hours searching in the wrong direction. Oh! And remember to check it's down before you drive off! We drove round Brighton with ours up for a whole day once :$ !
Mike88
Its an excellent system. Am able to get a signal on most occasions within a minute often quicker than the auto versions. Initially the system takes a little time to get used to but after a few tries its very easy indeed. Quickenss in getting a signal much depends on the type of receiver you use. When I tried with a Sky Box initially it took me ages because there is an inbuit delay in these boxes that makes setup difficult. But with a free to air box such as those sold in Maplin for around £50 you get an instant picture as soon as the signal is obtained. There is an inbuilt satellite finder on the Maplin boxes as well. My system was fitted for £500 last year by Adventure Motorhomes in Bridgewater Somerset. The owner (Nick) is a member on Motorhome Fun and Motorhome Facts websites. derek500
Excellent system. I've had mine for 2 1/2 years now. I upgraded mine from single to quad LNB for Sky+HD. Only cost 20GPB for parts on Ebay. Get signal quickly, often while auto systems around me are just going round in circles!!
little-jack
Thanks everyone, for the advice and info. All I need now is someone who can fit one for sensible money!
Rees
Try Nick at Adventure Motorhomes, Bridgewater. He has done several jobs for me. I have always found his prices to be very competitive and fair.
doonhamer
Deepcar at Sheffield supplied and fitted ours last July for £535 including a 12v free to air receiver. We have used it as far afield as Sagres (Astra 19.1) but can pick up Astra 28.2 easily at our home in the Charente and there haven't been too many occasions when I haven't been able to get a signal. It certainly makes you more aware of tress, etc. when you are parking. The rotation mechanism jams after a period of non-use but WD40 gets it going again. PJay
Don't have the Maxview, (used to have one on a tripod, free standing) but can certainly recomend Nick Stevens at Adventure motorhomes, as previous posters. He fitted us with a Camos Dome 45cm, works well, even in Spain and Portugal.
roger20
Have you thought about the Camos Crank-up as an alternative? I have just bought one from Nick at Adventure Motorhomes after reading positive comments on the "other" forum.
penny56
We have one and it's excellent. The picture is very good and it only takes a couple of minutes to set up. To get round the problem of forgetting to put the satellite dish down before driving off, I have made a 'Is the satellite dish down?' notice which I keep beside the TV and when we put the dish up, we put the notice on the steering wheel - it's worked so far!!! arthur49
I have the Camos Plus crank up and it works very well. No experience of Maxview one. Only reason I went for Camos was fitter's recommendation. Arthur
little-jack
I think I shall go for the camos, as it seems to be less of a problem in windy conditions,we dont need one to use in southern europe and its a bit cheaper as well. Thanks for all the advice
Syd
Posted this some time ago but you may find it useful, works everywhere I believe Sorry if you already know this but F1 fans wishing to watch the race on BBC TV with a small ariel and Sky simply need to go to BBC news (503) click on the red button, type in 3001 in the box top right of screen, press select then there you can pick your screen.
